Something Fancy

Today’s card features the Something Fancy Bundle and the Fancy Flora Designer Series Paper.  I often find that I like to combine papers with bundles that they were not paired with in the catalogs.  I thought this was an excellent example of finding a bundle (stamp set and coordinating dies) that you really like and using Designer Series Paper (DSP) you already have on hand.  I had been digging through my DSP and realized I had some of the beautiful Brushstroke DSP left from some projects I had made earlier this year out of the annual catalog and I saw this used with the Fancy Flora DSP to make some sympathy cards on Pinterest and I know it was a great way to use it up. 

Here is what I came up with…

The card base is Evening Evergreen cardstock cut to 5 ½ x 7 ¼” and scored at 4 ¼”.  I cut a piece of the Fancy Flora Designer Series Paper to 2 ¾ x 5 ¼” to attach to the top of a piece of Soft Succulent cardstock that measured 2 7/8 x 5 3/8”, I attached this to the front of my card.  For the inside I added a piece of the Brushstroke Designer Series Paper in Soft Succulent that measured 1 ¼ x 5 3/8” to the right side.  I then added a piece of Basic White cardstock that measured 2 7/8 x 5 3/8” to the left side so that I could write my message to the recipient. 

I then stamped my sentiment “With Deepest Sympathy” onto a piece of Basic White cardstock using Soft Succulent Ink and then die cut it using the smaller of the coordinating dies from the Something Fancy Bundle.  I cut a piece of Evening Evergreen using another die (the larger of the two) and matted the sentiment onto it.  I added this to the front of my card being sure to only glue down the left side so the card would open.  For my final addition I added three of the Rhinestone Basic Jewels that I had colored using the Evening Evergreen Stampin’ Blend Marker (good tip, you can make these jewels any coordinating color you want using these markers). 

Here are two alternate cards I made using the same layout.  On the first card I used Mint Macaroon (item #138337), Flirty Flamingo (item #141416) cardstocks, Flirty Flamingo Ink (item #147052) and the 2021 – 2023 In Color Opal Rounds (item #159185) and I used the back side of the DSP I selected in place of the Brushstrokes DSP.  

On the second card I used Crumbcake (item #120953), Soft Succulent (item #155776), Evening Evergreen (item #155574) cardstocks, Evening Evergreen Ink (item #155576) and the 2021 – 2023 Opal Rounds (item #159185).

The Impossible is Possible

Today I am featuring a unique card created using the Two-Tone Flora Bundle and the beautiful Fancy Flora DSP.  A few weeks ago I saw a video on creating an Impossible Card and after some trial and error I finally figured out how to make the impossible possible.  My biggest challenge was figuring out how to cut out the Designer Series Paper for this card so I hope I do a good job of explaining it to you. 

Here is what I came up with…

 

The card base is Soft Sea Foam cardstock cut to 4 ¼ x 5 ½” and is scored and cut as shown in the picture below.

Once you have your scoring and cutting complete take your card base and holding the left top twist the fold so that the smaller 1” cut side is now at the top left.  See below…

 

This causes the center of the card to stand up (it will fold flat for mailing).  So now let’s move onto the Designer Series Paper, I used the Fancy Flora 6 x 6” DSP and I needed two pieces cut to 2 ½ x 4”.  I found this part to be a bit challenging but once I realized it was easier to make my cuts from the backside of the Designer Series Paper so that it was easier to line up on my cutter it went much smoother.  I would suggest you play around with paper that you don't care about to figure this out.  I also made myself this template I am showing below and that helped a bunch…

To give the card stability I cut a piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock to 1 x 5 ½” and added another piece of the Fancy Flora DSP cut to ¾ x 5 ¼” to it.  I then adhered this to the bottom front of my card.  Now it is all about decorating and the sky is the limit.  I chose to stamp the greeting “Happy Birthday” from the Go To Greetings Stamp Set (use the greeting of your choice) onto a piece of Fresh Freesia cardstock using Balmy Blue Ink.  I then die cut my sentiment using the Stylish Shapes Dies (I use these so much but you could just cut the piece in a rectangle and adhere it if you don't have a die you want to use).  I added it to that stabilizing strip with Dimensionals.  For the front of my card I cut a piece of Basic White cardstock to 1 7/8 x 3 ¼” and stamped the leaves from the Two-Tone Flora Bundle onto it using Soft Sea Foam Ink.  I then grabbed some scraps of Basic White cardstock and stamped the medium size rose and the next smallest one from the bundle with Balmy Blue Ink (I used the two step stamping which you can learn all about on my January 21^st post).  I also stamped the bunch of four little flowers using Calypso Coral Ink.  I die cut all three of these pieces using the coordinating dies from the bundle.  I popped the two roses up using Dimensionals and then just adhered the calypso coral flowers tucked up under them and added this to the center of the card that pops up.  I did add an additional piece of Basic White cardstock that measured 1 7/8 x 3 ¼” to the back of this card so I could write my message to the recipient. 

Here is another version that I liked as well.  I changed out the piece of Designer Series Paper I use as well as the cardstock base and some of the colors for stamping.  The additional items I used were Evening Evergreen cardstock (item #155574) and Calypso Coral (item #122925), Evening Evergreen Ink (item #155576) and Soft Succulent Ink (item #155776).  It is certainly interesting to see how just switching out the choice of paper from the Fancy Flora Designer Series Paper and a few colors of cardstock and ink can make such a difference.

Happiness Abounds my Friend

Today’s card was inspired by Lisa Freeman.  It features the Happiness Abounds Bundle and Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper.  I love this paper as it has images that can be die cut using the coordinating dies from the Happiness Abounds Bundle.  This is a simple note card to send of to a friend who needs a paper hug. 

Here is what I came up with…

The card base is Polished Pink cardstock cut to 5 ½ x 8 1/2” and scored at 4 ¼”.  I cute a piece of Granny Apple Green cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼” and added a piece of the Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper to the left side that measured 2 3/8 x 3 ¾”.  I then added a piece of Basic White cardstock to the right side of the Designer Series Paper that measured 2 ½ x 3 ¾”.  (note I left a ¼” border around and between these two pieces)  I added stamped my sentiment from the Happiness Abounds Bundle “friend” onto the bottom of the Basic White cardstock with Polished Pink Ink.  I then attached this layer to my card base.  I die cut two of the flowers and two of the leaf sets from the Designer Series Paper using the coordinating dies from the bundle, I added the flowers using Dimensionals and then just tucked the leaves up under them and adhered them with glue.

For the inside of the card I cut a piece of Basic White cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼” and using one of the dies from the bundle I added this cute little torn notebook edge.  I stamped one of the flowers from the stamp set onto the inside layer using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and colored it using the Polished Pink Stampin’ Blends markers.  Here is what that looks like…

Just a Note

We all love to get mail so I thought a simple card that was just a note would be perfect today.  This card features the Two-Tone Flora Bundle from the January – April Mini Catalog.  I did grab two other stamp sets which are ones I use all the time.  The Go To Greetings for my sentiment and the Forever Fern for the cute little ink dots on my card front. 

Here is what I came up with…

The card base is Petal Pink cut to 5 ½ x 8 1/2” and scored at 4 ¼”.  I then cut a piece of Basic White cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼"” and turned it over on my paper trimmer and using the scoring blade I scored it from the backside at ¼”, ½” and ¾” from the bottom.  This causes a nice effect of raised lines which add interest to the card.  This is a technique I learned years ago and I am not sure why I have not used it in a while.  Once I have my layer scored I added my sentiment “Just a Note” from the Go To Greetings Stamp Set to the upper right corner using Soft Succulent ink.  I then added my little dots all over the layer using a stamp from the Forever Fern Stamp Set and more of the Soft Succulent ink.  I wrapped a piece of the Soft Succulent Open Weave Ribbon around this layer and attach it to the back.  Then I add this layer to my card base.

For my leaves and flowers I grabbed some scraps of Basic White cardstock and stamped three sets of the leave in Soft Succulent ink and three of the flowers in Petal Pink ink (to see how to create these two-tone flowers check out my blog from January 21, 2023) and die cut all six pieces, these are from the Two-Tone Flora Bundle.  I added the flowers using Dimensionals and then simply tucked the leaves up under them where I wanted them.

For the inside of the card I cut a second piece of Basich White cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼” and I stamped a flower using Petal Pink ink and two sets of leaves and some of the dots using Soft Succulent ink.  This was a simple and easy card to create and it would be beautiful in lots of different color combinations, making it perfect if you were looking to create a set of note cards for a gift.
