All Good Things Come From Above

 I just love this sentiment so when I saw it on the stamps in the Autumn Goodness Bundle, I knew I had to have the bundle.  It didn’t hurt that fall is my favorite time of the year and I love all things fall, especially the beautiful colors and the bounty of harvest time and this set made me think of that immediately.  So here is what I created with it…

The card base is Old Olive cardstock that is cut 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼” (I did make this a card that opens from the bottom up to the top just for some interest.  I then cut a piece of the Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper (I love that it has all these beautiful fall colors and metallics to boot) to 4 x 5 ¼”.  Before attaching it to my card base, I added a piece of the Forever Greenery Trim and a bow made out of it as well.

Then I stamped my sentiment onto a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock using Cajun Craze ink and cut it out using one of the dies from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies (you will see me use these a lot).  I then die cut another of the dies from the set out of one of the Brushed Metallic cardstocks that coordinate so well with this DSP.  I adhered my sentiment directly onto the metallic layer and then popped that whole thing up using Dimensionals.

For my focal point, I stamped the wheat and pumpkins and other fruits in the basket onto Very Vanilla cardstock using Crumb Cake ink.  I let this dry for a while and then colored it with my Stampin’ Blends (NOTE:  Be careful you don’t linger on the outline as the Crumb Cake will smear if you get to much of the alcohol marker on it).  I will list the colors I used below.  I did hit my pumpkins and fruit with a touch of Wink of Stella Glitter brush.  I then attached my wheat directly onto the card and popped up my pumpkins and basket with Dimensionals.

Guest Designer’s Card

 Today I was lucky enough to have a guest designer in my craft room.  This designer has wanted to learn more about creating cards for some time and has ventured into my crazy craft room a few times to give it a whirl.  Today however he made it clear he wanted to make a card “using all the tools, with just a little help”.  So, I showed him where things were at and told him I would be over here working on my own thing but if he had a question to let me know.  There were a few questions (and some hesitation for fear he would “break” something but I think he did an amazing job.  He was pretty impressed with himself and now intends to “help” me make all of our Christmas cards.      

And here is what my amazing husband Larry came up with, I know you will love it as much as I do.

He has graciously allowed me to share his card and the instructions to recreate it here on my blog.

The card base is Cherry Cobbler cardstock that is cut 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”.  The next layer is Whisper White that was cut to 4 x 5 ¼” and embossed with the Dainty Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder. 

He then he prepared his sentiment by stamping the Merry Christmas sentiment from the Arrange a Wreath stamp set onto Whisper White cardstock using VersaMark ink and then heat embossing with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  He cut that out using the smallest of the scalloped and stitched dies from the Stitched So Sweetly dies (I use these dies all the time).  Then he cut the next largest size out of Gold Foil Sheet and adhered the two together and placed it in the bottom right corner of the card using Dimensionals.

Then it was on to the flower.  He cut the three layers of the Poinsettia from the Poinsettia Dies (these dies are two pieces; one cuts the flower while the other lays inside it and embosses the center for a realistic looking flower) out of Cherry Cobbler Cardstock.  He then added Champaign Mist Shimmer Paint to the flowers (I had this ready to use as I love it but to use it simply add three or four drops of the Champaign Mist Shimmer Paint into a Stampin’ Spritzer and fill the rest of the Spritzer up with Isopropyl Alcohol  and shake well before each use) by spraying it on (hard to see in a photo but in real life the shimmer is amazing.  Once the flowers were dry (just a minute or two) he began to shape them using the bone folder and then he layered them.  He added this to his card base and started on his foliage. 

For the foliage he cut and embossed (again at the same time with these new dies) two leaves from the same die set as well as the two sprigs out of Gold Foil.  He shaped the leaves with the bone folder and added them using Dimensionals.  For the sprigs he used the stylist on the end of the Take Your Pick tool to give the “berries” a little rounding and he tucked them up in under the flower.

For the final embellishment he used Metallic Pearls in gold (7 of them, because he remembered odd numbers look better on a card than even) to create the center of his Poinsettia.  I have to say he did just what he said he wanted to do "used a bunch of tools and stuff" but with that said I am awful proud of him and his card and I am looking forward to creating more with him.

Starting on Christmas

I have been having some fun with the new Poinsettia Petals Bundle and today’s card is a simple take on the bundle which has some amazing 3D Poinsettia’s in it.  I chose to keep todays card less 3D realizing that some of the beautiful 3D elements would not fair well when mailed long distances.   

Here is what I came up with…

The card base is Crumb Cake cardstock that is cut 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”.  I then added a Mossy Meadow layer that measured 4 x 5 ¼”.

I cut another piece of the Crumb Cake cardstock this time to 3 ¾ x 5” and attached it over the Mossy Meadow layer. 

Note:  For the speckles on my card I used stamps from Forever Fern and Christmas Gleaming (because I wanted two different sizes of them) with Soft Suede ink, but there are lots of sets out there that have these types of background stamps and any would work.  I just find these kinds of elements just add so much interest to the card front. 

I stamped my Poinsettia onto a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock (about 3 x 3”) using VersaMark ink and then I added Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool, I used the coordinating dies from the bundle to cut it out.  I stamped my leaves onto scraps of Mossy Meadow cardstock using Mossy Meadow ink and die cut them using the coordinating dies.   I cut two pieces of foliage (from the same bundle) out of Silver Foil Sheet.  Once that was all stamped and cut out, I went to work on my sentiment.  I used the Merry Christmas sentiment from the Poinsettia Petals bundle (I love the font on this one) and I stamped it onto a piece of Cherry Cobbler (about 1 ¼ x 4 ¼”) using VersaMark ink and embossed it again using the Silver powder.  Once it was done, I cut it out using the Ornate Layers Dies (I love the stitched look on these). 

Now it is time to assemble.  I started with my sentiment in the bottom right corner and adhered it using Dimensionals.  Next, I added my Poinsettia, again with Dimensionals.  The I added my two leaves with Dimensionals and finally I adhered my silver foliage with some liquid glue.

Note:  I did use my Bone Folder to shape some of the petals on my Poinsettia and to shape both of my leaves.  Remember, doing this gives the card some movement which makes it much more interesting.
