I have been having seen these slimline cards all over the place lately and I really wanted to try my hand at one. I watched several people’s videos and checked out a bunch of blogs and decided what I liked and what I didn’t (there are a lot of ways to make these kind of cards) and here is what I came up with…
The card base is Smoky Slate cardstock that is cut to
7 x 8 ½” and scored at 3 ½” on the 7” side).
To create the next layer, I started with a piece of
Whisper White cardstock that measured 3 ¼ x 8 ¼” to this I added a piece of the
Peony Garden Designer Series Paper that measured 3 x 8”. I wrapped a piece of the Polka Dot Tulle
Ribbon around this layer and tied a nice bow.
I then adhered this to the card base.
I stamped two of the Peonies, three of the leaves and
the sentiment from the Prized Peony Bundle onto Whisper White cardstock using
Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I then die cut
my flowers and leaves using the dies from the bundle. I die cut my sentiment out using the Stitched
So Sweetly dies (I used these really often).
Once everything was cut out, I added my sentiment to the bottom right of
the card using Dimensionals. I colored
my flowers with the Dark Petal Pink, Light Flirty Flamingo and Light Daffodil
Delight Stampin’ Blends. To make my
flowers really pop (you can’t really see it in the pictures) I used some of the
Champaign Mist Shimmer Paint to give it a really shimmer look. To do this I added three drops of the paint
into a Stampin’ Spritzer and filled the spritzer the remainder of the way with isopropyl
alcohol and shook it really well and then sprayed the flowers (the affect is
amazing). For the leaves I colored them using the Old
Olive Combo Stampin’ Blends. I added the
flowers and leaves to my card using Dimensionals.
For a nice finishing touch, I used three of the Rhinestone
Basic Jewels. I also cut a second piece
of the Whisper White cardstock to 3 ¼ x 8 ¼” for the inside and stamped the
smallest of the Peonies onto it using Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored them
with the same Stampin’ Blends as the large flowers (I did the same thing on the
envelope).
Of course, this card requires a special envelope (now
don’t worry it is about the size of a #10 business envelope so you won’t have
to pay an arm and a leg to mail it. Here
is how that is made…
Begin with a piece of Whisper White cardstock that measures
8 ½ x 11”. With the 8 ½” side along the
top of your Simply Scored Tool score the cardstock at 2 1/2” and 6 ½”, then
turn it so the 11” side is along the top of your Simply Scored Tool and score
the cardstock at 1 ½” and 10 ½”. Cut
away the outer tabs on both ends and miter as shown here. While the envelope remains unfolded it is a
good time to stamp it as shown in the second picture here.
Now it is as simple as reinforcing all the score lines
with your bone folder. To seal the envelope,
I used Tear & Tape and you will see that one of the longer sides is a
little shorter than the other, this is the top one so put your Tear & Tape
on it. Also, add Tear & Tape to the
bottom and top flaps. When your envelope
is done it will look like this…
