Pathfinding Cardmaking Workshop on the Go

Are you interested in learning to make cards but a little worried about getting started.  Do what I did, start with a kit so it is all laid out for you.  I love this cute kit from Close to My Heart called Pathfinding.  It includes a stamp set that is just adorable and when you are done making the 15 (count them 15 cards) you still have glitter tape and sequins left not to mention your stamp set which can be used over and over.  This is a really cute set to use to make your thank you cards.  While this is geared toward the fall with the simple change of paper you could make cards for anytime of the year.  Now who doesn't need thank you cards (one card I use the most).  So here is the kit:

More fun with Confetti Wishes

As promised yesterday I have some more fun cards created using the Confetti Wishes Paper pack. I love this paper it is so much fun to work with, the bright colors and happy vibe just make you smile.  Ok so here we go, two more cards.

Card 1 -

I have to say of the five cards I made this is my favorite, I love the colors, the design and I really love that sentiment.  Ok so here is how it was made.

I started with the white daisy 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" card base.  I added a piece of lagoon that was 4 x 5 1/4" and then a piece of the B&T (remember that is the Background and Texture paper or one of the 6 sheets, two sided, three different patters that are included with the card stock in the paper pack) that was 3 3/4 x 5".  Next I cut a piece of the Daisy White card stock to 3 x 3" and stamped it with these cute little dot stamps that I got in the stamp set that comes with the Confetti Wishes Scrapbooking Workshop on the Go (I am planning to do this scrapbook kit soon and I ordered it and an extra paper pack so I could make scrapbook pages and cards both).  I used all the color inks that were on the paper to include lagoon, pear, paifica, thistle, and canary and then mounted it onto a piece of the lagoon that measured 3 1/4 x 3 1/4".  I love how it turned out but if you didn't want to do this you could just as easily use a piece of one of the other patterns from the B&T papers.  Finally I cut a piece of the B&T to 1 x 4 3/4 and cut a little v into it and did the same with a piece of white daisy that measured 3/4 x 4 3/4" that I stamped using thistle ink and one of the most versatile stamp sets I have purchased ever the Big Hug stamp set.  Oh and lets not forget I just had to add a purple glitter dot.

Card 2 -

This is another of those cards that can be sent to brighten anyone's day.  So easy and yet anyone would love to receive it.

Base is the 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" white daisy card base.  B&T paper cut to 4 x 5 layered on that.  Piece of white daisy cut to 3 x 4 1/4" stamped with the Lovely Birthday stamp set (the flower is stamped on a scrap of white daisy and then a piece of 3-D foam tape is used to pop it up), the colors used were lagoon and two new colors, thistle and canary (love them).  This piece is mounted onto a piece of lagoon (could use the canary, pacifica or crystal blue from the paper pack instead) that is cut to 3 1/4 x 4 1/2 and then finally a strip of the B&T paper that measures 5/8 x 5 1/2" is adhered across the bottom of the whole card.

I wanted to point out here that I made these two cards plus the three from yesterdays post all with two pieces of the B&T paper, a little strip of a third sheet and some card stock I had let from other projects.  Cards are a great way to use up those scraps of paper.  Get creative and try something new.  If you need inspiration Close to My Heart sells some great layout books that I refer to often to get my creative juices flowing. Confetti Wishes

I just fell in love with this new Close to My Heart paper pack.  Who wouldn't?  It is fun and exciting and just perfect for scrapbooking and cardmaking.  I just love this new purple color that was introduced on August 1st, it is called Thistle.  So here are some cards I made with it (stay tuned for scrapbook pages coming later this month).

This cute little card is just perfect to brighten up someones day.  Who wouldn't smile if they received this in the mail?  So here is how it is made:

Cut the following:  Lagoon card stock cut to  8 1/2 x 5 1/2" and folded to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" to make the card base.  Now cut the Confetti Wishes B&T (this means Background and Texture or the three different two sided pattern paper that comes in each of the Close to My Heart paper packs) paper to 4 x 5 1/4", center and adhere to card base.  Cut a piece of Daisy White card stock to 2 3/4 x 4" and stamp with the Happy Birds stamp set (color in using the Shin Han Touch Twin Markers or the color pencil).  Mount that onto a piece of Lagoon card stock cut to 3 x 4 1/4" and mount that onto the center of the card using 3-D Foam tape to add that extra dimension.

Note:  this card would look great with the lagoon replaced by the pacifica or the crystal blue card stock that comes in the paper pack as well.

Card 2:

This card was made by starting with the 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" white daisy card base.  I stamped Happy Birthday across the top using the Joyful Birthday stamp set.  I then cut a piece of the Confetti Wishes B&T paper to 2 1/4 x 5 1/2" and mount it on the card base, I then took the second piece of the B&T paper which had the candles and the word celebrate across it and cut it following the movement of the sentiment, trimmed it to 5 1/2" and mounted that onto the previous piece of B&T paper.  Finally, to add that little pop I added gold glitter tape and some purple glitter gems (because no card is complete without some bling).

Card 3:

Another birthday card but this one is a little more whimsical.  I again started the card with the daisy white 4 1/4 x 5 1/2" card base.  I then added a piece of the B&T paper cut to 4 x 5 1/4 and placed a square (2 1/2 x 2 1/2") of lagoon card stock (again the pacifica, crystal blue or even the canary included in the paper pack would work great here) mounted to the right side of the card (about 3/4" from the bottom and right).   I then mounted a piece of other side of the B&T paper measuring 1/2 x 5 1/2" about 1" up from the bottom of the card and over the square of lagoon.  I then stamped a piece of the daisy white that is 1 1/2 x 4 3/4" with the sentiment and flower from the Lovely Birthday stamp set and cut a v in the end for interest.  Finally here comes that "bling" again, a 2" piece of gold glitter tape and three gold sequins make the card complete.

Inspired

I just returned from the Close to My Heart Convention in Disneyland and I had a blast.  This was my first convention so everything was new and exciting.  I do have to say though one of the most exciting things I did while I was there was to participate in a card swap with other Close to My Heart Consultants.  My word, are there some really talented ladies out there.  However, there was one card that really hit my fancy and I came home and just had to figure out how to make it.  I want to be sure though to give full credit to the designer of this beautiful card, Veta Evans.

Here is my take on the card (I made a few small changes but nothing to big because it was already beautiful:

Ok so how is it made, well start with a 4 ¼ x 5 ½” colonial white card base. 

Then I began to assemble my pinwheels (I found that if I cut and mounted the pattered paper onto the colonial white card stock before gluing the pinwheels they had more stability and were easier to assemble).  So I cut three each colonial white card stock to 1 ½ x 1 ½” square and did the same with three each of the patterned papers, I used balloon ride from Close to My Heart here (I do like that the CTMH papers are two sided and coordinating which makes them perfect for a project like this one and any of the papers would look great as a pinwheel).  I cut the patterned piece as shown below (cut diagonally from the corners without cutting through).

I then put a dot of liquid glass (the most amazing adhesive I have ever used) in the center and brought each of the corners to the center as shown to create the pinwheel and topped each with a little bling.  These pinwheel squares were then mounted onto a double mat (I used the same paper I used on the pinwheels and just alternated the sides showing) they were cut to 2 x 5 ¼” and 1 7/8” x 5 1/8”.  I then cut off about ½” of the bottom front of the card and placed a strip of coordinating paper that was ¾ x 5 ½” on the inside of the card as an accent.  Finally I stamped the card with sentiment from the Joyful Birthday stamp set (B1419) using the new Glacier ink being debuted on August 1^st as part of the new Close to My Hearts Annual Inspirations Idea Book (contact me to see how you can earn a free copy of this $6 – 193 page, 8 ½ x 11” inspiration and idea book).

Finding a project for those scraps

Ok, I had some scraps left from a Close to My Heart paper pack that is going to retire at the end of July so I was looking around for inspiration to use it up and I found a cute card created by Jayma Malme on Pinterest (Jayma hope you don’t mind me scraplifting, but you know it is really a complement).  I did modify it a little (I like A2 cards or 4 ¼ x 5 ½”) and Jayma had used four different patterned papers, when I tried to do that on my small card I didn’t think it looked right so here is what I came up with. 

 I started with a base card that measured 4 ¼ x 5 ½”.  I added three pieces of coordinating papers (I used some left over Ariana papers) that were cut 1 ¼ x 2 ½”, a piece of Ariana green card stock that was cut to 1 x 4 ½”, the cute little border was cut using the Close to My Heart Cricut Artiste cartridge, page 31, accent 3, shift 1 (cut at ¾”), the flowers were cut using the Close to My Heart Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge from page 29, bottom one was cut from blush card stock at 2”, middle was cut from craft card stock, and top one was cut from ariana green card stock.  Each was stamped using the Hooray Bouquet stamp set (D1491) with blush, lagoon and pear ink and a clear sparkles rhinestone was added to the center.  Finally the sentiment was also stamped using the Hooray Bouquet stamp set.

Skylark

I really like the Close to My Heart Skylark paper so I decided to make one more project with it before it is no longer available (available until July 31, 2014).  

I started with kraft paper as my mats for the first of 2 -two page 12” x 12” layouts.

Cut:

Skylark B&T to 7 x 8”, 5 x 12”, 3 x 8”, 5 x 8” and 3 ½ x 3 ½”  (remove the zip strip (this is the little accent piece that is printed on one side of the paper it will be used as an accent on the project)

Lagoon cardstock to 6 ½ x 7 ½”, 3 x 8”, 1 ½ x 12” and 3 ½ x 3 ½” (3 ea)

White cardstock to 3 ½ x 5”

I like to ink the edges of my projects so I did that on all of the mats I used, I used chocolate ink to do that on the skylark pieces and zip strips and lagoon ink on all the lagoon cardstock pieces.  Then I assembled as the picture shows.  I added some stamped images and sentiments along with some twist ties and three dimensional pieces that coordinate with the paper.  For that final bit of pop I used teal shimmer trim to really set off the page.  I am very happy with the outcome.

So I decided to add another paper pack to the mix and use the leftover items from the Skylark Workshop on the Go and see what I could create.  

For this layout I turned to Close to My Hearts wonderful Make It From Your Heart Vol 2 book, it has some awesome layouts in it.  I decided to use the one on page 32.  I did modify the photo mats from 3 ½ x 5” to 3 ½ x 5 ½” to allow for the use of 3 x 5” photos without the need to crop any of them.

I used the Skylark Workshop on the Go G1072, it included the Skylark paper pack, the White Daisy Cardstock, 3-D assortment, twist ties and stamp set D1591 that I used to make these projects (this makes the project much more affordable

Just having fun

I had some of the National Scrapbook months special “Free to Be Me” paper left so I decided to make a couple cards.   I found several different cards on Pinterest that I used for inspiration and off I went.  Now while the cards were made with this paper they could be recreated with any of our beautiful Close to My Heart Papers.  The great thing about the paper packets is that you receive two each of three different two sided papers and six additional sheets of coordinating card stock.  So the possibilities are just endless.  So here are the cards and the instructions for making them.

This first card started with a base card that measured 4 ¼ x 5 ½”, there is a background mat cut from the red paper at 4 x 5 ¼”, and then the orange paper and the vellum paper were each cut to 1 5/8 x 3 ¾” (a hint with vellum, your adhesive may show through so with this vellum I made sure to use my liquid glass on the back side of the gold dots so it would not show).  The red sentiment mat was cut to 1 ½ x 3 ½” and the daisy white card stock was cut to 1 ¼ x 3 ¼” and stamped with a sentiment and flower from the stamp set Have a Happy Day (D1616) with autumn terracotta ink.  I also colored one of the 5mm clear sparkles to match the card and adhered it to the center of the flower.

The next card I kept kind of simple (I was thinking that helped it look more masculine).  I started with a card base that was 4 ¼ x 5 ½” I added a strip of green that measured 1 ½ x 5 ½”, a strip of red that measured ½ x 5 ½”, and the feather paper that measured 2 ¼ x 5 ½”.  I then cut an orange mat for my sentiment that measured 1 ½ x 3 ¾” and added the daisy white cardstock cut to 1 ¼ x 3 ½” and stamped using the stamp set Joyful Birthday (B1419) with cranberry ink.

Let's take a Ride, with the CTMH Balloon Ride Paper Pack

These cute cards were inspired by some I saw on Pinterst which were created by Michelle Johns.  They are quick and easy cards that make cute little card sets which can be used as gifts.

  

The bases are 5 ½ x 4 ¼” colonial white card bases.  Then I cut pieces of various papers from the Balloon Ride paper pack to 5 ¼ x 4” and distressed them using saddle ink and my trusty dauber.  I then cut mats (here I used Saddle cardstock but I also made some using Crystal Blue cardstock which went nicely with the Balloon Ride papers) to 3 x 3”.  I then cut various B&T (Background and Texture) papers from the paper pack into 2 ¾ x 2 ¾” squares that I then stamped using various stamp sets.  I made over a dozen different cards just changing around the papers within this paper pack and had a blast doing it.

Believe In Yourself

What a beautiful sentiment, so here it is on a card.

 

Here are two variations of the same card, I just attached the pieces differently for a new look.  I started with a colonial white card base of 4 ¼ x 5 ½” and added a piece of the Skylark paper (the quatrefoil side) cut at 4 ¼ x 5 ½ which was distressed using Lagoon Ink.  I then added a strip of the Skylark paper that was the blue semi-floral cut to 2 x 5 ½”.  The base of the sentiment is a piece of kraft cardstock cut to 3 ½ x 2 1/8” topped with a piece of colonial white cut to 1 ¾ x 3 ¼” that has been stamped with stamp set C1574 Believe in Yourself in Lagoon and Sweet leaf ink and mounted using 3-D foam tape.  The flags are cut from the green chevron paper in the Skylark paper pack and are 1 ½ x ¾”’.

Ivy Lane WOTG and More

The Close to My Heart Workshops on the Go are a great way to get inspiration and they come with lots of products that coordinate (including a stamp set) as well as cutting and layout instructions so that your pages will turn out great, however, I did take some liberties and changed some of the embellishments around.  That is the great part of this, there is no right or wrong, just what you like.

When I was done I still had some papers left and I wanted to make more pages so I hit Pinterest to see what else was out there and I found this idea that Susan Williams had posted and I used it (with a few changes to make it my own).

The base is created with two sheets of 12 x 12” Hollyhock cardstock.

The honeycomb accents were made using the Artbooking cricut cartridge.  Page 67, Shift, Overlay cut at 11” (cut 2 of these, one for each page). Individual honeycombs were also made using the Artbooking cricut cartridge.  Page 66, Shift, Border cut at 1 ¼” – cut as many B&T pieces and White Daisy pieces as you will need.  

The White Daisy pieces are stamped with the Honeycomb stamp set using Hollyhock, Desert Sand and Blush inks. Piece these into the honeycomb overlay and then mount onto the Hollyhock base.

Cut B&T to 6 x 12 (if there is a pattern make sure paper is turned correctly before cutting since this piece will be mounted horizontally), mount horizontally in center of each page and over the top of the honeycomb overlay.

Add Zip Strips of choice to sides (these are those cute little ½” strips added to the sides of each of the three B&T (background and texture) papers included in the kit.

Cut and mount the following mats, Ivy Lane Green 4 ½ x 6 ½” (cut 2), Ivy Lane Purple 3 ½ x 5 ½” (cut 2), Bamboo 4 x 6” (cut 2), Bamboo 3 x 5” (cut 2)

Stamp “Pure Joy” from the Ivy Lane WOTG stamp set in Smokey Plum onto White Daisy cardstock, cut out and mount.

Flowers are created using the Art Philosophy cricut cartridge.  Page 50, Shift, Layer, green is cut at 1”, hollyhock at 1 ½” and floral at 1 ¾” they are then layered, glued together using Liquid Glass and a Purple Glitter Gem is added to the center of each.
