Pop Up Gift Card Holder

I was once again inspired by Teri Polock from the United Kingdom when she made her version of this cut little Pop Up Gift card holder.  After some fussing with the measurements to get it all into inches and the way I wanted it to look I am pretty happy with the result.

The base of the gift card holder was created from a piece of Garden Green cardstock that measured 4 ¼” x 10” and with the long side across the top of the Simply Scored Scoring Tool the cardstock was scored at 1 ½”, 4 5/8”, 5 ¾”, and 6 7/8”.  This piece is folded so that the score line at 4 5/8” and 5 ¾” are folded into a mountain fold.  Now here is the trick to making this pop-up gift card holder work.  You will use adhesive (I used Tear & Tape Adhesive because it is nice and strong, you will work as close to the edges as possible to allow the gift card room to fit down in) and you will adhere both the sides and the open bottom edge together.  Now using the 1 ½” Circle Punch you will punch a half circle from the center of this flap and then cut just a tiny strip of the top off (this makes the opening for the gift card). 

Now on to decorating our gift card holder.  The Designer Series Paper (I chose to use the Poinsettia Place paper) used to decorate the card holder was cut to the following sizes:

2 7/8 x 4” (cut 4 each)

1 3/8 x 4” (cut 2 each)

I adhered my larger pieces of DSP to each of the four larger areas.  For my smaller flap I rounded the corners on both the cardstock and the DSP using the Detailed Trio punch and then adhered the DSP to the cardstock flaps.  I then die cut some pieces to write my message on, I chose to use two of the cut stitched dies from the Stitched So Sweetly die set (this one is great because it has lots of different shapes).  I cut the largest from Garden Green cardstock and the smaller one from Very Vanilla cardstock.  (see photo above)

To keep my gift card holder shut I chose to use the 3/8” Gold Metallic Edge Ribbon and I tied it around the holder and into a bow.  Next, I stamped the sentiment “Happy Holidays” from the Poinsettia Petals stamp set onto a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using Garden Green Ink and I die cut it using the second smallest of the circles from the Layering Circles dies.  I also cut the second smallest of the scalloped circles from that same set out of Garden Green cardstock and adhered the circles together.  I punched a hole in the top of the sentiment circles and attached it to my ribbon with gold cording from the Wonders of the Seasons Ribbon Combo Pack.  When the gift card holder is opened up the gift card springs up and stands nice and straight.  Below is a photo that shows the same design just with a different paper and ribbon, the options are limitless. 

And there my friends you have it.  A super cute way to present a gift card either for the holidays or with a quick change of DSP for any occasion.  I hope you enjoyed this project. Blessed with a Wild Rose

I have some new customers who are attending my classes and one thing they were interested in learning more about was sponging so I decided to make one of the cards for this month’s class all about sponging technique and this is what I came up with…

The card base is Purple Posy cardstock that is cut 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”.  I did orient my card into a landscape this time.  I cut two more layers, one from Rococo Rose that is 3 ¾ x 5” and one from Whisper White that is 4 7/8 x 3 5/8”. 

I sponged the Whisper White layer with Seaside Spray ink using one of the Stamping Sponges (they come three to a package and I cut mine into fourths and add a little piece of cardstock with the name of the ink on it, just bend it over the top of the wedge and staple it on, I have one for each of my colors so I don’t contaminate my ink pads).  I started off the cardstock and worked from the top left corner to the bottom right corner and blended and added ink until I got the background look, I wanted.  (TIP:  Always start off the cardstock to prevent dark streaks).  I stamped my sentiment “Blessed” from the To A Wild Rose stamp set onto the bottom right corner with Rococo Rose ink. 

I then took a piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamped two of the roses and two of the leaf clusters from the To A Wild Rose stamp set onto it using VersaMark ink and added White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat set it using my Heat tool.  I used Pear Pizzazz ink and my sponge to color my leaves.  I sponged my roses with Seaside Spray and Rococo Rose ink to get a variegated look.  Once everything was sponged, I ran a clean paper towel over the top of the stamped images to pick up any ink that was laying on top of the embossing.  Then I used the coordinating Wild Rose Dies to cut the images out.

To assemble my card, I simply added a piece of the Purple Posy Scalloped Linen Ribbon that was about 4 ½” long to the center of the card and then added my roses and leaves using Dimensionals.  For my final touch I added three of the Pearl Basic Jewels which I think give cards a nice classy look. 

The sentiment I chose for the inside is from the same stamp set and it says “True friendship is one of God’s greatest gifts” and now isn’t that the truth.  This card is going off to a very special friend who has been a blessing in my life and is truly a gift.

Golden Christmas

I am continuing on with my Christmas cards.  Today I worked with the Poinsettia Petals Bundle and Gold Foil and I am really pleased with the result.  This one is just a little more work but so worth it. 

The card base is Very Vanilla cut to 5 ½ x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”.  The next layer is cut from Cherry Cobbler cardstock (one of my favorites for Christmas cards) which is cut to  to 5 ¼ x 4”.  I used one of the stamps from the bundle along with VersaMark Ink and Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder which I heated with my Heat Tool to create a great background for my card.  I simply stamped the poinsettia all over the card layer to create my own DSP (Designer Series Paper) and heat embossed it. 

For my focal point I chose to create a Poinsettia from the dies in the bundle out of Very Vanilla cardstock and Gold Foil.  I cut one each of all three of the layers of the poinsettia (I love that these dies cut and emboss all at the same time).  Once this was done, I simply added some depth to my flower by curling the petals a little with my bone folder.  I layered all three of the sets together (largest to smallest) being sure of offset the petals so you see all of them. 

With the Pointsettia done I moved on to creating the foliage for my card.  I cut two leaves and two of the berry stems along with the center of the flower out of Gold Foil.  I attached the center to my poinsettia and then attached it to my card.  I added Dimensionals to the leaves to pop them up and I tucked them under the petals of the poinsettia.  I added the two berry stems behind the poinsettia as well.  To really make the poinsettia pop I brushed on a little of the Champaign Shimmer Paint (doesn’t show well in the photo but is beautiful in person). 

For my sentiment I stamped the sentiment “Merry Christmas” from the Arrange a Wreath stamp set onto a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock with Cherry Cobbler Ink and cut it out using the smallest of the stitched rectangle dies from the Stitched So Sweetly Die set.  I cut a piece of the Gold Foil using the next larger stitched rectangle die from that same set and attached my sentiment to it.  I used Dimensionals and popped the sentiment up as well.

Dove of Hope Revisited

I really like this new Dove of Hope bundle.  I am working on variations of the same card (I am not a huge fan of mass production cards).  I created a card similar to this previously but did a little updating to make it what I consider a little better.   So here is what I ended up with and I am pleased with how it turned out.

Here is the front of the card

The card base is Night of Navy cardstock that is cut 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”.  I added a layer of Whisper White cardstock that is cut to 5 ¼ x 4”.  To that I added a layer of Designer Series Paper from the Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper (love the metallics in this paper pack) that measured 5 1/8 x 3 7/8”.  Then I started my die cutting.

I die cut the dove from the dies in the bundle out of Whisper White Cardstock (these are two layers, hard to see in the photo but a great affect in person) you do have to cut the wings twice.  (NOTE:  To maximize my paper I cut the body, one set of wings and the tail out of the Whisper White layer that is between the card base and the Designer Series Paper, just stay away for the edges, this saves paper and makes the card lighter for mailing.)  I adhered the layers together and then cut the olive branch also from the bundle out of Old Olive cardstock and glued it to the back of the dove’s beak.  I added just a touch of the Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker to my dove’s beak.    

For my sentiment I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the 3^rd from the smallest of the scalloped ovals from the Layering Ovals dies.  I stamped my sentiment “Peace on Earth” which is from the stamp set in the bundle onto this oval with Night of Navy Ink. 

I then mounted my sentiment and my dove onto my card front using Dimensionals.  For the inside I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock that measured 4 x 5 ¼” and stamped the sentiment “May your season be filled with all the wonder and blessings of Christmas” in Night of Navy ink, this stamp is also from the Dove of Hope Bundle.  (NOTE:  If you are going to make several of these or any card with a sentiment on the inside the Stampartus is an amazing tool as it allows you to perfectly center your sentiment and stamp it over and over again in exactly the same place).
