Watercolor Fun

Today I am continuing my series of cards that use a basic layout and can be recreated using any number of stamp sets that you may have on hand.  I used four different stamp sets to create these cards as well as using my Aqua Painters to create a beautiful watercolor background for each of these images.  As you can see, I left all of my images as black outlined images and I love how they turned out.  I hope you enjoy them.

Two of the card bases are 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 scored at 4 ¼” and open like a traditional card, the other two however, are 4 ¼ x 11” scored at 5 ½” and open from the bottom up.  To start I cut out four pieces of the Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper from Stampin’ Up! to 3 ¼ x 4 ½” (yes you really need to use watercolor paper).  I then used an acrylic block and stamped it down into my three colors of ink (I will list the colors below the pictures) and I used my aqua markers to paint a background onto the watercolor paper, keeping in mind the image I intended to use.  For some of the cards I went with a light wash of color and for others I used less water which made the colors richer.  I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to use the inks as watercolors and how easy it is to watercolor. 

Be sure to let the watercolor dry completely before stamping your images.  I used my heat tool to speed up the process and used Tuxedo Black Memento ink to stamp the images after everything was good and dry.

For card 1 I used the mat size recommended on the original layout given to me by my upline so it is a layer of Whisper White that measures 3 3/8 x 4 5/8”.  After doing that card I just felt I wanted a little wider mat so on all the rest of the cards I made my mat size 3 ½ x 4 ¾”.  I determined my colors based on the image itself and what colors I thought would work best with it. 

I used a variety of different sentiments on them but of course any sentiment would work wonderfully.

Fun with Fun Folds

Today I am continuing my series of cards that use a basic layout and can be recreated using any number of stamp sets that you may have on hand.  I used four different stamp sets to create these cards as well as four different twines.  I have not added any sentiments as of yet (waiting to see what I want to use them for.  So, here they are, I hope you enjoy them.

The card bases are 8 ¼ x 4 ¼” and scored at 5 ½”.  All of the images are stamped onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock (I use more of this cardstock than any other I own) that measures 3 x 4” (cut 2 because you will need one for the inside of the card as well.  After stamping and coloring (I used Stampin’ Blends on the first three and for the fourth I used my Stampin’ Write markers directly onto the stamp) I then wrapped my twine around the Whisper White layer and mounted each onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock that measured 4 ½ x 3 ½” (remember what I said before about black being a nice color to layer with.  I added this to my cardbase and adhered my Whisper White inside and in no time, I had four great cards.  I again did not add sentiments as I am not sure how I will be using these cards.  This idea of having a stock pile of cards that simply require a sentiment is really growing on me.

Layering Squares

Today I am continuing my series of cards that use a basic layout and can be recreated using any number of stamp sets that you may have on hand.  I used four different stamp sets to create these cards as well as four different Designer Series Papers (DSP).  I did want to show that you could also make many cards by simply changing up the Designer Series Paper (DSP) and choosing coordinating cardstock for your layering.  The one constant here is that I used the Layering Squares dies on all of them (love these squares and I use them all the time since they are made to work perfectly together it takes the guess work out of what size goes with what size).   So, here they are, I hope you enjoy them.

Good Morning Magnolia and Magnolia Lane DSP

The card bases are all from a half a sheet of cardstock, and were cut 5 ½ x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”.  Two were designed vertically and two were designed horizontally, as this layout is perfect for either. 

The first layer on all these cards is cut from Whisper White cardstock at 3 ¾ x 5”.  I then selected our stamp sets and four DSP’s and started to create.  The DSP is cut at 2 x 3 ½”.  For my squares I cut them from Whisper White (except the one I used with the die cut magnolia which I cut from Old Olive) using the fourth largest of the squares from the dies.  I then selected coordinating cardstock to cut the base square which was cut using the 3^rd largest of the scalloped squares from the dies.  I stamped my image onto the whisper white cardstock in the case of cards 1 and 3.  I then colored in the images on card 1 using Stampin’ Blends.  For card 3 I stamped the base image and then stamped and punched out a little flower from the set (this stamp set was a sale-a-bration freebie and is no longer available but since many of my customers got it for free I wanted to show them how to use it).  For card 2 I used my Daisy Lane bundle and stamped and punched out two daisies which I layered, I added two leaves that were also done using a punch and finally added a Perennial Essence Floral Center.  For card 4 I stamped the image from the Good Morning Magnolia bundle and die cut it using the coordinating dies.  I colored it using the Stampin’ Blends and then added it to my squares.

All of the squares are popped up using dimensionals.   You may also notice that all of my sentiments are geared to thinking about you cards.  I intend to use these cards to send to some of the elderly shut-ins from my church as these are very trying times for them.

So Sentimental Bundle

Today I am continuing my series of cards that use a basic layout and can be recreated using any number of stamp sets that you may have on hand.  I did want to show that you could also make many cards by simply changing up the Designer Series Paper (DSP) and colors so all of the cards I created today use a single bundle called So Sentimental, it includes some great stitched dies and some wonderful sentiments.  So, let’s start with the first set of cards.

The card bases are all made from a half a sheet of cardstock, and were cut 4 ¼ x 11” and scored at 5 ½”.  The horizonal cards open from the side while the vertical card opens from the bottom up.  I like to change up the direction of the layout just to keep things interesting.

For the second layer I choose a cardstock that highlighted one of the colors in the DSP I was using.  This layer is 3 ½ x 5 ½”.  The next layer is black on all the cards, I find basic black cardstock to be a nice touch when layering.  I just feel it gives the eye someplace to rest which is really important when you are using vibrant or busy DSP.   This black layer measures 3 ¼ x 5 ½”.  And finally, for the DSP, this layer is 3 x 5 ½”. 

For my sentiments I stamped each onto Whisper White Cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento ink (I love this ink for sentiments because it gives a nice crisp image).  I then cut them out using the dies from the bundle.  On three of them I added an additional layer of colored vellum that was cut from another of the dies in the bundle and then I popped all of them up onto the center of my DSP using Dimensionals.

Fun With Circles

As I posted on Facebook, I am starting a series here of cards that use a basic layout and can be recreated using any number of stamp sets that you may have on hand.  So, let’s start with the first set of cards.

These cards all have the same layout and each uses a different embossing folder, stamp set and ribbon but they all use the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Dies to create a focal point.  So here are 4 I created using this layout.

The card bases are all made from a half a sheet of cardstock, 2 were cut to 5 ½ x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼” and 2 were cut 4 ¼ x 11” and scored at 5 ½”.  I did this so that my cards would open in different directions, just something to keep it interesting. 

The second layer is 4 x 5 ¼” and each was run through a different embossing folder.  On my little turtle I used an embossing folder that was a freebie from Sale-A-Bration (I am hoping we will see it return in our next catalog because it is really cute) it was the only one I added ink to but I could have done that on all of them just to add additional texture.

I used several different ribbons and they do a great job of anchoring the circle.  As you can see from the pictures, I also changed the direction of at least one card (a nod to my friend Cathy who always likes cards that are horizontally based instead of just vertically based).
