Happy Times Card #4

Here we go folks back with another Happy Times card.  I am continuing to fill my Happy Times purse (tutorial on my May 1^st blog story) with cards.  I often like to make cards without sentiments and then add little sentiment when I am preparing to give the cards or I leave them without sentiments so that they can be used as note cards.    

I started with a card base that I made from a piece of pixie cardstock that was cut to 5 ½ x 8 ½” and then folded to make an A-2 (4 ¼ x 5 ½”).  I cut strips from two different pieces of the Happy Time (great way to use scraps).  One is ¾” x 4”, the second is ¾ x 4 ½” and the third is ¾ x 5”.  Now these can all be the same, all be different or a mixture, which is what I did.  Once I cut them I inked the edges of the floral ones using a dauber (love the look) with honey ink and the pink one with gold was inked with pear ink.  I want to say that this picture does not do justice to this beautiful paper.  The flowers in the center strip of paper appear to be black in this photo but they are actually metallic gold and just pop off the page.  

I then took a piece of white daisy cardstock that measures 1 ½ x 2  ¾” and stamped it (I just used a little bit of a large stamp) with the swirls from the Love Life stamp set using pear ink and then again using a dauber I inked the edge of that piece with pear ink.  I mounted this onto a piece of honey cardstock that measures 1 ¾ x 3” that I inked with honey ink again using a dauber (some people just run the edge of the ink pad along the edge of the paper but I like the control I get with a dauber).  I popped that whole thing up on top of the strips of B&T paper using some 3-D foam tape.  (Note:  see where I left room on the top right if I wanted to add a sentiment later)

Finally, I punched three little flowers out of some scrap cardstock I had which are goldrush, pixie and honey (this punch is not a CTMH product but it makes flowers that are about ½” or you can make small flowers from many of the CTMH Cricut cartridges, see the rose I made below, it is about ¾” across), I used my Piercing & Embossing Tool Kit to give them some dimension.  As usual I thought they needed a little bling so I added some sparkles to the center of the flowers.

Happy Times Card #3

So I am still working on those cards to fill that little gift purse.  I am enjoying the wonderful company of my mother and father in law this week so I am not spending as much time as I have been in my craftroom but it is such a treat to have them here with us that I don't mind a bit.  So since I was in a time crunch today my card is very simple.

Presenting Card #3....

You will notice it is similar to card number 2 in that it uses the same ovals as yesterdays card did (I often cut and stamp several at a time to use on different projects).  I was happy to find I had this one already stamped and dried so I could color it quickly and stamp Happy Birthday and get a card done in minimal time.

I started with I started with a pre-made white base card that is an A-2 (4 ¼ x 5 ½”).  I used the same method as yesterday and cut an oval that was 4” at its highest point from pixie cardstock.  I also had an oval that was 3 ½” at its highest point from white daisy cardstock (these ovals are on most if not all of the CTMH cartridges). 

The flower was stamped using memento ink from the Take Heart stamp set.  As I have said before I just like the crisp lines I get from the memento ink plus it works great with my ShinHan markers.  I added Happy Birthday from the Your Kind of Wonderful stamp set which I stamped with pixie ink (you will notice that it is curved, that is the great thing about these clear acrylic stamps, you can bend them when you put them on the block so you can do so much more with them).  

Now comes the part I do really enjoy.  I got to color, which is always a treat for me.  I used just two colors of markers here along with my colorless blender and got great results.  I also added (impossible to capture with a camera) a little Wink of Stella (clear) to add some shine, this is not a Close to my Heart product just something I always keep in my craftroom.  

So to build this card I added a piece of Pomegranate cardstock (I just love this color) that measured 2 3/4 x 4" along the bottom and then layered the floral paper from the Happy Times paper pack (which I received for free with a qualifying $60 order this month) on top of it and to the left side of the card. Then I added the ovals.

Finally I added the puffy butterfly (from my stock of retired bling) or you could stamp one of the butterflies from the Your Own Kind of Wonderful stamp set.  And I added three (because odd numbers always look better) pink enamel gems to the bottom right on the Pomegranate cardstock.

Happy Times Card #2

So today I am continuing my quest to fill my Happy Times purse (tutorial on my May 1^st blog story) with cards so I can give it to my daughter in law as a gift.  I for one realize as much as we hate to think about it one card we always need and often at the last minute is a sympathy card.  I think it is very important to have a supply of them on hand.  So today’s card is going to be a simple and classic sympathy card. 

I started with a pre-made white base card that is an A-2 (4 ¼ x 5 ½”).  I added the first layer which is 4 x 5 ¼” and is from the Happy Times paper packet.  It is a tone on tone of yellows with diagonal stripes which I thought this was a nice complement to the floral paper cut to 3 ¾ x 5” which was the next layer. 

I broke out my Close to my Heart Cricut Artistry cartridge and cut an oval that was 4” at its highest point from honey cardstock.  I also cut an oval that was 3 ½” at its highest point from white daisy cardstock (these ovals are on most if not all of the CTMH cartridges). 

I stamped the flower and sentiment from the Take Heart stamp set (this one is a very nice set for sympathy cards as it has some beautiful sentiments for the inside of the card as well.  I am going to stamp “Praying for you in your time of need” on the inside of the card) using memento ink.  As I have said before I just like the crisp lines I get from the memento ink plus it works great with my ShinHan markers. 

Now comes the part I do really enjoy.  I got to color, which is always a treat for me.  I used just three colors of markers here along with my colorless blender and got great results.  I also added (impossible to capture with a camera) a little Wink of Stella (clear) to add some shine, this is not a Close to my Heart product just something I always keep in my craftroom.  I think it is called that because it gives you just the tiniest wink of shimmer, which is perfect for a card like this one. 

After I was finished I realized I could have done better with this card.  For example when I make the next one I will add some ink around the edges of the floral paper just to give it a little of that distressed look.  I would also use 3-D foam tape to pop up the oval as that would add some dimension.  Oh well, like most people I have 20/20 vision in hind sight.  LOL!!!

Happy Times to be had by all!!!!

I am going to move on from the Georgie paper packet and show you some great ideas on how to use this month’s special the Happy Times paper packet.  This beautiful paper packet features 14 exclusive B&T Duos, including four papers with gold foil designs and it can be yours for free yes I said free with a qualifying $60 purchase.  Read all about it in the right column of my blog.

So let’s get started, if you saw my earlier posts you know I have been busy making little purses full of cards to give as birthday and holiday gifts, so I am continuing on that theme today.  Here is the purse I made using this beautiful (free) paper. 

Now it needs to be filled with cards so here is the first one in the series.

I began with a pre-made white card base (I use these a lot because I find them very economical and I hate to use more of my beautiful paper than is absolutely necessary on a single project) it is an A-2 card which means it measures 4 ¼ x 5 ½”.  I cut a piece of the Happy Times paper (I chose the ombre and made sure I took it from the center so I would get the full graduation of color) and cut it to 4 ¼ x 5 ½” and adhered it to the front of the card. 

I then cut a piece of honey cardstock in an oval shape that was 4” at it’s longest point (I cut this using the Close to my Heart Artistry cartridge) and a second one from white daisy that was 3 ½” at it’s longest point. 

I stamped the flowers using the Happy Times stamp set (available during this month only).  I used pear ink for the stems and crystal blue for the smaller flowers and naturally poppy for the poppies.  I did stamp one additional poppy on a piece of scrap white daisy and cut it out and popped it up using 3-D foam tape to add some dimension and give additional interest to the card. 

Finally, I stamped hello on the card (you could use any sentiment you want) I just love these little mini stamps because they are so affordable.  And there you have it, cute card that can be used for pretty much any occasion.

Georgie Card #8

So this will be the final card for my little purse (at least this purse).  It seems that 8 cards and envelopes are just the right amount to fill it nicely.  So here is the final (no I am sure I will be making some more because I love this paper) card using the Georgie paper pack.

Again I chose to start with a pre-made white card base which I purchase (with the envelope) in bulk, this is an A-2 card so it is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2".  I added a layer of canary cardstock that measures 4 x 5 1/4 and topped that with a layer of the B&T paper that measures 3 3/4 x 5", before I added this layer I did wrap a piece of ribbon from my stash around the card or you could also add a strip of paper about 1" wide . 

Next I cut the balloon base and the banner out of white daisy cardstock (you can use the Close to my Heart Cricut Artiste cartridge I was at a crop and didn't have my cartridge so I cut them by hand) and then stamped them using the Balloon Wishes stamp set (I love this one because it has several different sentiments you can stamp).  I stamped the balloon using memento ink because as I have said before I like how it works with the ShinHan markers and I get no bleeding.  The sentiment I stamped with slate ink.  

I colored in the balloon using my ShinHan markers (I may be all grown up but I still love to color) and added the sentiment banner across it.  I popped the whole balloon up on the front of my card using 3-D foam tape.

Georgie Card #7

Well we are getting close to having that adorable little purse all filled with cards.  Here is the next one in the series.  This is a baby card which I am very pleased with.  As you may have noticed this Georgie paper pack is very versatile however, I have to admit it is perfect for baby cards and scrapbook pages.  

Again I started with one of the pre-made card bases (I just find them so convenient and affordable) but you can create one using the white daisy cardstock in the paper pack (this is another A2 card so it is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2".  I added a piece of Juniper cardstock that is 4 x 5 1/4" and then added a piece of the Georgie B&T paper that measured 3 3/4 x 5".  

I actually purchased the Georgie Scrapbooking Kit Workshop on the Go (WOTG) and one extra set of the Georgie papers and I have made tons of things to inclued three different 2 page scrapbook layouts, the little purse and about 10 cards (so far).  I have a fair amount of the paper left so who knows what all I will end up with.  I loved the stamps in this set as well and intend to use them for a number of projects.  The sentiment here is one of the stamps (actually it is two since the little yellow bird is a separate stamp that I just wanted to add).  It is stamped on a piece of white daisy cardstock that I cut from the Close to my Heart Artistry Cricut cartridge.  It was cut at 2" and is on page 25 of the book.  

The little duck was also cut using the Close to my Heart Artistry Cricut cartridge.  I used canary and goldrush cardstock.  Once I assembled it I did use my journaling pen to fill in his little eye (I just thought it looked better black).  I cut him at 2" and he can be found on page 38.

I added the duck and sentiment with 3-D foam tape to give the card a little dimension and there you have it, the perfect card for a baby shower.

Happy International Scrapbook Day.

Not only is it International Scrapbook Day today, May is National Scrapbooking month.  I admit I make more cards than scrapbook pages but I do want to be a grandmother really bad (guess I figured if I made the pages the babies would come) LOL.  I just feel in love with this paper.  Not only was it great for the little purse that I posted on May 1st and the cards I have been posting all week, it great for scrapbook pages as well.  Take a look at some of the things I have made using it...

This page was made using the great Instructional Brochure included in the Workshop on the Go - Georgie Scrapbooking Kit (it also included the papers, the stamps I used on this page, the cute little embellishments and the enamel gems).  These kits are a great starting resource and offer instructions for two different layouts.

On this page I winged it all on my own.  I cut the giraffe out using my CTMH Artbooking Cricut Cartridge and the starts using the CTMH Artistry Cricut Cartridge.  The titles and other items were cut using my Stork's Delivery cartridge which I have had for years.  I did use my cute new stamp set called Animal Greetings which is a special Close to My Heart stamp set to stamp the cute little whales and giraffe's.  You see for each stamp set sold CTMH donates $7 to Operation Smile which provides surgeries to repair cleft lips and palates in children, the result, Smiles all around!!!

I have to admit this page was inspired by something I saw on one of the facebook pages I belong to but for the life of me I can't find the post to give the designer due credit.  I did make some changes and I am really happy with what I came up with.  Since I had the Georgie Workshop on the Go kit I had some great leftover papers and supplies to work with.  I did use my CTMH Artistry Cartridge for all the cuts here including the Duck, Dream Big, Balloon, stars and Little One.  I used what we call the zip strip (it is a half inch by 12 inch boarder on the top of all the CTMH B&T (background and texture) papers to add some flair as well.  The diaper pins are one of the strips and then the cute sayings were cut apart from another.  I added some of our twine and a few buttons from my stash and I was thrilled with the affect.  

Overall I am thrilled with my pages and I look forward to having that grandbaby so I can get these in use.  LOL...  I plan to highlight a whole lot more that can be done with this cute paper pack so stay tuned.  I am going to list the major supplies I used to make these pages happen below...

Georgie Scrapbooking WOTG (G1102) - this has most of the paper you will need but you can always supplement with the basic cardstocks which are from the Whimsy collection (X5940), I find that using more cardstock allows my B&T (remember those are the beautiful patterned papers) to go way further.  The WOTG includes one full paper packet, which includes two each of three different two sided B&T papers and two sheets of Whisper, two sheets of White Daisy, one sheet of Canary and one sheet of Juniper cardstock (pictured below) but you may even want to buy an extra paper packet, so you can make many more pages or cards it is X7203B.  

Inks: Canary (Z2634), Juniper (Z2165) and Whisper (Z2172)

Artistry Cricut Cartridge (Z3167 - actually cartridge) or (Z3190 - digital collection for Cricut Explore or Explore Air) - I do want to say that while this cartridge appears to be expensive it hold 700 images, shapes, layers, banners, borders, backgrounds and fonts (many cartridges have less than 50 images) it also includes 3 stamp sets (each a $17.95 value) and a Cardstock Combo Pack (a $14.50 value)

Georgie Card #6

Well hello there.  Today we move onto card #6 in our quest to fill our little card purse/gift bag full of coordinating cards (if you want to see the directions for the purse they are on my May 1^st blog). 

I have fallen in love with these drape folds.  This one is a double drape and I think it is quickly becoming my favorite.  So let’s get started.  On this card I used one of the pre-made A-2 white card bases that I purchase in bulk (like that it comes out to about $.29 and that includes the envelope as well).  I used the Canary cardstock that came in my Georgie paper pack (as you can see I am getting the best bang for my buck out of this pack of paper).   I cut it to 4 x 5 ¼ and mounted it onto the white card base.

Cut two sided paper to 3 x 11”.  Score at 1.5, 2, 3, 3.5, 4.5, 5, 6, 6.5, 7.5¸ 8, 9 and 9.5

With the paper lying horizontally with the side you want as your top facing you, measure up 1.5” on each side and make a light pencil mark, measure and mark the bottom at 5.5”.

Cut from the side marks to the center bottom mark (it will be like a big v).

Now, fold (mountain, valley, mountain, etc.) from each end until you meet in the center with two drapes lying side by side (a bone folder will give you a nice crisp edge on your folds).  Adhere drapes to one another (here I just put a little adhesive between the folds to get it to lay flat) and center on the card base you made from the canary cardstock (there will be extra material on each side, you can cut it off or I just fold it around the back of my base. 

On this card I decided to make my little valance as I like to call it, from the same paper as the drape but you can make it from a coordinating paper as well.  It is just ½” x 4” (sometimes I make it longer and just tuck it behind the cardstock because I think it gives it a cleaner look). 

The circles were cut out of white daisy cardstock (there are two sheets in the Georgie paper pack) using the CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge and then stamped in different colors that coordinated with the paper pack (you can choose whatever colors make you happy) using that same stamp set, So Many Smiles (you could also just cut them by hand if you don’t have this cartridge after you stamp them).  I used canary and crystal blue on mine.  

I placed smaller circles on top of the larger ones using 3-D foam tape and then placed them on the card with my Bonding memories glue pen.  The sentiment is stamped with memento ink using the Victorian Gratitude stamp, I just love the font, so classy looking (best part about this stamp is that it is one of the mini’s and is just $2.95, I love them all and use them all the time).

NOTE:  The two small circles on the side of the larger one were stamped using a stamp set that is now retired.  I apologies I try really hard not to do this but sometimes I slip up.  No worries though there are several different images on the So Many Smiles set that are just the right size for this.

Georgie Card #5

Today is card #5 for our little purse cardholder/gift bag.  I think this little guy is really cute don’t you.  Lots of potential in a card like this one and it is super easy to make. 

Here is the card....

I started by making a card base using Whisper cardstock (you guessed it, there are two sheets of it in the Georgie paper pack).  I cut the cardstock at 5 ½ x 8 ½” and then scored it at 4 1/4” and folded it over.  I like to use a bone folder when I do this to get a really crisp fold.  Next I cut two pieces of the B&T (remember that is the background and texture papers that are two sided) that I liked for the background.  I cut one at 2 x 4” and the other at 3 x 4” and placed them on the card leaving a little gap between the two for interest. 

Next I took a little piece of white daisy (yes it comes in the paper pack as well, LOL) that measured 4 ¼ x 2 ½” and stamped it with this cute little koala from the Cute Koalas stamp set using memento ink and colored it in using the CTMH watercolor pencils (there are 24 pencils n the package and with the blending pen you can make limitless shades) and then I stamped the sentiment in canary ink.  Once it was complete I mounted this onto a piece of Whisper cardstock (you guessed it, it is in the paper pack too, see the trend here, LOL) that measured 4 ½ x 2 ¾”.   Finally, I mounted that onto the card (I decided it looked best a little off center) using 3-D foam tape.  

I want to take a second to show you this paper pack so you will see what I am talking about when I say it is so versatile.  There are three different B&T papers with a different design on each side and you get two of each of them.  You also get, six sheets of cardstock, two each Whisper and White Daisy and one each of the Canary and Juniper. n All the papers are 12 x 12", so you can just imagine all the cards and projects you can make with just one paper pack.

Georgie Card #4

On to card #4 for our little purse card holder/gift bag (see the post on May 1^st for directions to make one) using the Georgie paper pack. 

Here is the card and the little purse it will go with...

On this card I used one of the pre-made A-2 white card bases that I purchase in bulk (like that it comes out to about $.29 and that includes the envelope as well).  I used the Juniper cardstock that came in my Georgie paper pack (as you can see I am getting the best bang for my buck out of this pack of paper).   I cut it to 4 x 5 ¼ and mounted it onto the white card base.

Next I made my drape fold, I got the instructions for this fold from Dee Houston (thank you) but I am not sure who actually came up with the fold as there are a number of different ones out there on You Tube and Pinterest and I have no way of knowing who the actual inventor was but whoever it was, thank you for this cute fold. 

To make the fold I cut two sided paper at 3.5 x 9” (this will make two cards).  Now score at 1, 1.5, 2.5, 3, 4, 4.5, 5.5, 6, 7 and 7.5”

With right side facing you, place a light pencil mark ½” from the bottom left corner and make another mark ½” down from the top right corner

Line up both marks in the channel of the paper trimmer and cut diagonally (this will give you two pieces, although the bottom piece will be slightly wider before the first pleat)

Pleat folds (valley, mountain, valley, mountain, etc.) on the score lines.  Adhere drapes to one another (I just add a little score tape to the inside of the pleat of each of them so they lay nice and flat).

I added a piece of coordinating paper from the Georgie paper pack that measures 5 x 3 ½” to the bottom of the card and then secured my drape to it.  I added a ½” strip of coordinating paper to the top of the drape (I like to think of it as my coordinating valance) and then secure to the front of the card. 

I love this new stamp set called A Bunch of Love.  I stamped the flowers and then added the sentiment onto white daisy cardstock which is in the Georgie paper pack using memento ink (there are four sentiments that will fit into the two different flower and banner stamps as well as a nice sentiment for the inside of the card in this set).  The best part about this set is that you can purchase the A Bunch of Love Thin Cuts (so no fussy cutting) which I love to use, so quick and easy. 

I colored in the flowers using my CTMH ShinHan markers and then added Bitty Sparkles to the center of three of the flowers.  I then popped this up on the top center of the card using 3-D foam tape.  As a finishing touch I put three of the new Florence Sequins on the bottom right and added Bitty Sparkles to the center of three of them (I don’t remember where I was taught this but I was taught that uneven numbers look better than even numbers when it comes to embellishments).  Just remember you can never have too much bling.
