Calypso Card 3

So here we are back today with another cute card using the Calypso paper packet.  I just love this paper, it just makes me feel happy for some reason.  So here is what you need to do to make this card.

Cut Calypso to 4” x 2 ¾”piece E (flamingo side, inked the edges with a dauber and pixie ink, I find this gives the piece  some depth and more interest)

White card base (4 ¼” x 5 ½”)

Calypso paper (blue with speckles)cut to 4 ¼” x 5 ½” and 2 ½” x 1 ½”

White Daisy cut to 2 ¼” x 1 ¼”

Pixie cut to 2 ¾” x 1 ¾”

  

Supplies: (in addition to listed below)

Pixie Ink (Z2644)

Dauber (Z726)

So Many Smiles stamp set (C1619)

3-D Foam Tape (Z2060) – I popped up the sentiment to add interest

Basic Supplies (additional supplies for individual projects will be listed with the bag or that card, please note several supplies are used on multiple cards, etc. )

- Calypso Paper  Packet (7210B) (I used 1 sheet of the pineapples on one side and the flamingo’s on the other and did half of the cards featuring each design.  I also used part of a sheet of the Blue B&T with speckles but I could have used blue cardstock there)

-1 sheet of 12 x 12 Canary Cardstock, 1 ½ sheets of Pixie Cardstock, 1 sheet of Pear Cardstock (or you could use the green B&T in the paper packet)

-1 sheet of White Daisy Cardstock

-White Value Pack cards and envelopes (X254)

NOTE:  You could use the Calypso Paper Packet in lieu of any cardstock and make this whole project.  My issue is I hate to cover up a beautiful designed paper with another paper so I tend to use a lot of cardstock as bases.  If you were looking for a cost saver and wanted to use cardstock but didn’t want to purchase large packages of numerous colors you could easily purchase the Whimsy Cardstock  package which has 20 sheets of 12 x 12 cardstock that would go great with the B&T papers (it is X5940). 

Calypso Card #2

So here is Card #2 for our little tote, this time we are featuring the pineapple side of the paper.  I need to apologize for the photos, I just don't know why but for some reason this paper is really hard to photograph.  It is so much prettier in person.  Well here are the instructions for this one...

Calypso cut to 2 ½ x 4 ¾” (pineapple side, again this one would have looked better inked with pear ink like I did in subsequent cards)

White card base ( 4¼” x 5½”)

Canary cut to 4 ¼” x 5 ½”

White Daisy cut to 5” x 2 ¾”  and 1” x 3”

Pear cut to 1 ¼” x 3 ¼”

Color three of the Bitty Sparkles with the golden yellow marker and put next to sentiment

Calypso Card #1

Here we go, this is the first card in a series of 9 cards that are made using the beautiful Close to My Heart Calypso Paper packet.  It along with it's 8 brothers and sisters fits nice and neat into this little tote (directions posted on June 3 post).

Card #1

Cut Calypso to 1 ½ x 4 ¾” (flamingo side, I wish I would have inked this one with pixie ink, like I did in subsequent cards)

White card base 4 1/4” x 5 ½” 

Cut Pixie to 1 ¾ x 5” and 1 ¼ x 3 3/4

Cut White Daisy to 1” x 3”

-  Pixie Ink (Z2644)

-  So Many Smiles stamp set (C1619)

-  3-D Foam Tape (Z2060) – I popped up the sentiment to add interest and allow the twine to lay down properly

Fun with Calypso

First I need to give a huge shout out to Stephanie Carroll who is the original designer of this project.  I found her template on Split Coast Stampers (I believe) and saved it some time ago planning to use it and of course other things got in my way, isn’t that how it always is.  So I stumbled across the file the other day and thought it would be perfect for this project and I was right, I just feel in love with it once I did.  I simply changed up a few things to make it what I wanted.  Excellent design Stephanie, thank you so much for the cutting template and the inspiration.  Look at this cute little bag that is going to hold all our treasures...

One Sheet Wonder Tote and Cards  (when we finish we will have a little bag and 9 coordinating cards which is perfect for gift giving)

Basic Supplies (additional supplies for individual projects will be listed with the bag or that card, please note several supplies are used on multiple cards, etc. ) -     

- Calypso Paper  Packet (7210B) (I used 1 sheet of the pineapples on one side and the flamingo’s on the other and did half of the cards featuring each design.  I also used part of a sheet of the Blue B&T with speckles but I could have used blue cardstock there)

For tote:

          Pixie cardstock (cut to 8 ½ x 11”, 11 x ¾”, and 3/8" x 4 1/2"  

          Calypso pieces 4 x 4 1/2", and two at 1/2 x 11"

        

With 8 ½” side at top score paper 1 ¼” from each side

With 11” side at top score paper 4 ½” from each side

Cut on short score lines – fold and adhere with sticky strip to make box

Adhere piece A to front of tote and embellish as desired ( I added two pixie strips and the Hibiscus Flower)

For handle attach pieces B to Pixie strips using sticky strip and then adhere handles to front and back of tote using sticky strip (I also added a brad here because I felt it looked better.

- Flower was stamped using the Hawaiian Hibiscus stamp set (B1527)

- Hibiscus was colored with ShinHan Markers (the water color pencils work great too, they are 3505), Leaf Green (Z2454), Tender Pink (Z2464), Marigold (Z24574) and the Colorless Blender (Z2469)

Calypso is in for June

That is right, new month and a new featured paper pack.  This month the featured paper pack is Calypso, look at this beautiful scrapbook page and card made with it by one of the talented crafters at Close to My Heart...

The vibrant colors and very trendy pink flamingos and yellow pineapples make it great for summer scrapbooking.  Who can resist them...

It is right on trend with it's beautiful colors and of course those pink flamingos and yellow pineapples.  I have been playing with this paper already and will be posting some great ideas on how to use it throughout the month.  Here is a little taste...

Check out these 14 cards!!

I want to start out with stating that I did not create this one sheet wonder pattern.   I got the idea from a post I saw from Francine Davis, Independent Close to my Heart consultant from Kaleidoscope Heart Scraps where she used this pattern with the La Vie En Rose Paper Packet from Close to my Heart and I just loved it.  The actual instructions and diagrams can be found at  http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2015/11/one-sheet-wonder/  

I have wanted to try some of these one sheet wonders for a while now and I am so happy that I did. These cards will finish off all I need to fill my little card purse plus some.  I have to say I am going to be using this one for many more projects.   Here is the cutting diagram for this project.  

 While one of the goals of the One Sheet Wonder is to create cards with no patterned paper waste, there is a very small rectangle left unused (1¼” x¼” noted in orange above).

Step 1:  Cut along the horizontal lines first. (Note orange lines in diagram above.)

Step 2:  Begin cutting along the vertical measurements.

  

Step 3:  Continue cutting across the first horizontal block.  Be sure to keep your pieces in order (you can label the pieces, but may not want to if you are using the Close to My Heart Background and Texture (B&T) paper as you can use either side and increase the possibilities).

Step 4:  Continue until all pieces are cut.    

                           

    

Step 5:  Finish cards as desired.  This is the assembly diagram, I did alter some of mine a bit but you get the idea.  You can move things around to make it work for the sentiment or stamp set you want to use.

One Sheet Wonder tips

1. Keep it simple. Cut and assembly time will increase if the layout includes many small pieces.

2. Use paper with a non-directional patterns. Some patterns of stripes, images or text will limit the directional use of each piece and complicate the process.

3. If using a one-sided pattern, you can lightly mark your layout’s measurements on the back side. By using double-sided patterned paper, the design options increase with the ability to mix and match the two patterns on one or more cards.

I used one 12 x 12 sheet of B&T paper from the Happy Times Paper collection which is available this month for free with a qualifying $60 order or it can be purchased for $14.95 during this month only.  To that I added 14 premade card bases and two sheets of gold foil cardstock (you could use any cardstock you wanted for the mats, I just happened to have a couple sheets of this in my stash from a project I did a few years back and I thought it worked well with this paper). 

So here are my cards and what I used to make them.  Please forgive the photos, the quality leaves something to be desired.  It was very difficult to photograph them because of all the gold and its reflectivity.  I have to say they are much prettier in person than on the photos. 

All cards were stamped using Memento Ink (Z899) and all are mounted on premade bases from the White Value Pack (X254).  The Happy Times Paper Packet is (CC1063).  Remember these are just the stamps I used, you could use any stamps that you wish.

Card 2 – stamp set: Smiles Begin With You (A1172), ShinHan Markers: Tender Pink (Z2464) and Leaf Green (Z2454)

 Card 8 – stamp set Take Heart (C1639) (retired), ShinHan Markers: Tender Pink (Z2464), Leaf Green (Z2454) and the colorless blending marker (Z2469)

Card 9 - stamp sets: Joyful Birthday (B1419) and Love Life (D1482), Pink Enamel Gems (Z3091), 3D foam tape (Z2060) (I like to pop up my sentiments sometimes to add more interest) the swirls were stamped with Blush ink which is now retired but you could use any color you have on hand

I have not forgot you!!!

I have had my in laws here visiting for the past 10 days so things have been pretty hectic.  Today was my first day back in the craft room so I have not had a chance to post for a while.  I am working on a one sheet wonder set of cards that I hope to have finished and can post tomorrow.  They are made from that amazing Happy Times Paper pack I have been blabbing about all month, LOL.  So hang tight and I will be back with more just as soon as possible.  As always...

Happy Times Card #7

Today I am introducing Happy Times card #7.  This one uses one of my favorite new stamp sets and one of my favorite techniques, it is called the double drape.

Here it is, doesn’t it feel tropical?

Ok, lets get started with the drape.  Cut two sided paper (I used my happy times paper)  to 3 x 11”.  Score at 1.5, 2, 3, 3.5, 4.5, 5, 6, 6.5, 7.5¸ 8, 9 and 9.5

With the paper lying horizontally, measure up 1.5” on each side and make a light pencil mark, measure and mark the bottom at 5.5”.

Cut from the side marks to the center bottom mark (it will look like a big v).

Now, fold (mountain, valley, mountain, etc.) from each end until you meet in the center with two drapes lying side by side.  Adhere drapes to one another (I just used some double sided tape in between each of the drapes and then adhere the drape to the center of the card base.  I used this wood looking paper from the Happy Times paper pack that I cut to 4 x 5 ¼” (there will be extra material on each side, you can cut it off or I just fold it around the back of my base and glued it down to the back. 

I added the little ½” strip of white and metallic gold (it is what we refer to as the zip strip, each of the B&T or background and texture papers that Close to my Heart sells has one that coordinates with the paper, I use these on cards and scrapbook pages all the time).  This is like a valance for your drape and helps give it a finished look. 

After adhering all these pieces onto the paper that looks like wood I then mounted it on a card base that I made from a piece of goldrush cardstock that measured 5 ½ x 8 ½” that I folded to an A-2 card base which measures 4 ¼ x 5 ½”. 

To finish this card off I stamped two flowers and three leaves (remember uneven numbers look best) from the beautiful new stamp set called Hawaiian Hibiscus (I see this one being used a lot in my future) , I used memento ink and stamped them on scraps of white daisy cardstock.  I colored them in using my ShinHan markers and then adhered them to the card.  I added 3-D foam tape under the smaller flower and the leaf next to it to add interest and I shaped all of them using my bone folder.

Happy Times Card #6

Well we are moving right along on our project, to add cards to this cute little purse for gift giving.  (Tutorial for purse on May 1^st post).

So here is card #6 in our series using the Happy Times paper pack which can be yours for free (see post on right side of blog) during the month of May 2016 in celebration of National Scrapbooking Month.  Today I will also be using the Happy Times stamp set which is only available this month.  It is a really fun set and I am planning to make some awesome scrapbook pages with it later this month, so be on the lookout for those.

I started by using a pre-made white base for my card (because as I have stated several times I always use my beautiful paper sparingly.   I cut a piece of what is surely my favorite paper in this package to 4 ¼ x 5 ½” and adhered it to the front of my card.  Next I used a piece of the white and metallic gold paper and cut it to 2 ¼ x 5 ½” and made sure that I positioned it so that the gold would be on each side once I added a piece of white daisy cardstock that measured 2 x 5 ¼”. 

I stamped the white daisy with one of the sentiments from the Someone Special stamp set using one of the newest Close to my Heart colored inks – Pomegranate; I just love how it pops off the white.  I stamped the flower (two pieces) second generation pomegranate (which means I inked the stamp and stamped off on scratch paper and then stamped onto my cardstock).  I stamped the leaves using Pear ink.  Then I cut all the pieces out.  I assembled the flower using liquid glass which dries fast and holds well (I use it on all my flowers).

To give the flowers dimension I used my bone folder to break down some of the fibers in the paper and shape them.  I did the same thing to my leaves so they would have some dimension as well.  I adhered the flower and leafs but still felt like there was something missing so I added the little pomegranate colored gem to the center of the flower.

Happy Times Card #5

Hard to believe we have already seen 4 cards using the Happy Times paper packet that is (as my boys use to say when they were young, free fifty free, LOL) free this month with a qualifying $60 purchase or you can do like I did and purchase a package (of course I did that so I would meet the $60 order and get a second pack for free, because I love this paper).  This one is another card without a sentiment; it is perfect to use just to send a note to someone. 

Now this card looks like it might be complicated but it really is not.  I started with (you guessed it) a pre-made white card base that is an A-2 (4 ¼ x 5 ½’).  I cut a piece of honey cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼” and inked the edges with honey ink using my trusty dauber.  I centered that on the card base. 

For the next piece of the card I cut two pieces of crystal blue cardstock to 2 5/8 x 2 5/8” square and inked them with crystal blue ink again using the dauber.  Next I cut 4 squares of the floral paper in the Happy Times paper pack to 1 ¼” square and one 5/8 x 4” and inked all of them with the honey ink.  The final four pieces are cut from the blue paper with lines from the Happy Times paper pack and they were cut to that same 1 ¼” square and inked with crystal blue ink using the dauber again. 

So to make the pinwheel, you start by attaching the two pieces of crystal blue together like this…

Now start adding your smaller squares leaving a small consistent boarder around each of them.  Do not fully adhere the first square as you will have to lift it to insert the final square…

When you get to the final square, lift the first square and work this final piece into place. 

Once the pinwheel was complete I added it to my card using 3-D foam tape and then added bling to the center.  The final step was to add the strip of patterned paper at the bottom of this card, or I could have added a sentiment there. 

I hope you like this card and this pinwheel technique.  I really like the look and it is pretty easy to do with the Close to my Heart paper packs since they are all color coordinated and sometimes finding coordinating papers can be half the battle in a project like this one.  Have a great day and Happy Crafting!!!!
