Butterfly Dreams

I have been totally taken by this marbling technique using the Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Markers on Vellum and 91% Isopropyl alcohol.  I love the amazing affects you can achieve just my changing up the colors.  So today I decided to pair it up with a beautiful Gold Foil Butterfly from the Brilliant Wings Dies.

Here is what I came up with…

I explained how to do the alcohol technique on my July 19, 2021 post so I will be skipping over that part today as the technique remains the same on each of these just the colors changes.

The card base is Misty Moonlight cardstock that is cut 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”.  I then created my technique layer.  I used only the dark Stampin’ Blend alcohol markers and the colors I used were Polished Pink, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green and Bermuda Bay.  (This is done on the vellum).  I then attached that to a Polished Pink layer that measured 4 x 5 ¼”.

Once that was all done, I set out to embellish my card.  I flicked a little Wink of Stella marker on the layer by simply tapping the brush against my finger.  Then I added some streaks of Liquid Adhesive and let them sit for a minute (this is for the veining affect) and then I added some Gilded Leafing.  I pressed it down into the glue good and let it sit for a few minutes.  I then rubbed off the excess leafing with my fingers and a good stiff stencil brush.  I stamped my sentiment onto a label that I had cut from Basic White cardstock from the Messages Dies (there are lots of shapes and sized in this die so I just keep some around in an empty stamp case and use them as I need them) from the Art Gallery stamp set using Misty Moonlight ink.  I then die cut one of the butterflies from the Brilliant Wings dies out of Gold Foil and added it using some Mini Dimensionals.

I have really come to love this technique and I hope you enjoy this card I certainly enjoyed making it.  As always you can find the supplies to create this card and much more on my website at https://craftwithronnie.stampinup.net or by click the shopping button at the top of this blog or the link to the supplies listed below.

A Hand Penned Hello

Today I wanted to make a very simple card to show that you don’t have to purchase a whole bunch of products just to make a cute card.  This card simply used paper, ink and a little ribbon, there were no dies or punches used, no fancy techniques just a paper trimmer and of course stamps.

Here is what I came up with…

The card base is Highland Heather cardstock that is cut 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”.  I cut three pieces of Daffodil Delight Cardstock to 1 3/8 x 3 7/8” and three pieces of the Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper (DSP) to 1 ¼ x 3 ¾” and mounted the DSP onto the Daffodil Delight.  I added each of the outside pieces on bringing them over ½” from the edge of the card and then I simply centered the third piece in between those two.

I stamped my sentiment “A LITTLE hello FROM me to you” from the Pansy Patch stamp set, onto a piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock that measured ½ x 4” using Highland Heather ink.  I cut a little off the end of the sentiment just to give it a little visual interest.  On the left of the sentiment, I added a simple bow that was created from the 3/8” Open Weave Soft Succulent Ribbon using a Mini Glue Dot and then I popped the whole thing up on the card using.

For the inside and envelope, I wanted to continue to keep my design simple and easy so I stamped the flowers from the Quite Meadow stamp set onto a piece of 4 x 5 ¼” Basic White cardstock and onto the envelope using the Highland Heather ink we used for the sentiment.

I hope you enjoy this card it is certainly perfect for using up small left-over pieces of Designer Series Paper and it is also perfect for making large batches of cards as it is so simple to create.  I certainly enjoyed making it for you.  As always you can find the supplies to create this card and much more on my website at https://craftwithronnie.stampinup.net or by click the shopping button at the top of this blog or the link to the supplies listed below.

Alcohol and Vellum

I have seen some amazing projects all over the internet using this technique.  So, I watched a bunch of different folks on YouTube, read some blogs, checked out Pinterest and then I started to experiment.  Not all of my attempts were successful but eventually I did figure out how to make this amazing background using Vellum cardstock, Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Markers and 91% (yes it does need to be 91%, I had some disasters with the 70%) Isopropyl Alcohol.  I was thrilled with what I was able to create using these simple products (be on the lookout for lots more).

Here is what I came up with…

I am very pleased with the outcome of this experiment and will certainly be creating many more of these cards.  I think my ladies at card club are going to love them as well.  I decided to make my focal point the Friends are Like Seashells Bundle and the coordinating Sea Shells 3D Embossing Folder and boy they did not disappoint.

The card base is Cajun Craze cardstock that is cut 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”.   To create the marbled look, I started with a piece of Vellum cardstock that measured 4 x 5 ¼”.  I scribbled it with three different Stampin’ Blend Markers (I used the Darks only), I chose to use Soft Succulent, Calypso Coral and Cinnamon Cider.  After I had scribbled (I found fairly large areas of each color works great).  I started with the Calypso Coral and I took my Water Painter (it had nothing in it I used it more like a paint brush) and I dipped it into the 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and just dabbed up and down on all that color.  I would wipe my brush and reload the alcohol frequently.  I allowed it to spread into other colors some but not too much.  When I was done with the Calypso Coral I moved onto the Soft Succulent and then the Cinnamon Cider and did the same to each of them.  Once I had them blended, I simply took my Water Painter and dipped it into the alcohol and hit it against my finger to splatter some more of the alcohol on my vellum (this is what causes those cool looking spots).  I then allowed everything to dry well.

Once I felt my vellum was good and dry I used a sponge and sponged on the Multipurpose Liquid Glue all over the side that I had put the alcohol on (that’s right we are going to flip it over to use so we have a softer look, this is a personal choice, I did some each way and like them both).  I attached that to a piece of Soft Succulent cardstock that measured 4 x 5 ¼”, I found this added to my vellum and gave the Soft Succulent in the vellum a little more drama.  Once that was all done, I added little lines of the Liquid Multipurpose Glue onto the front of the vellum (I liked them to be random in size and shape) I let this set up for just a few minutes and then I added the Gilded Leafing.  I put a lot on and let it sit for a few minutes then I rubbed it in good with my fingers.  To get all the little pieces off I used a stiff stencil brush.  I just love how it turned out.

For the final decorations I stamped the sentiment “You are unique and completely amazing” from the stamp set in the bundle onto a scrap of Cajun Craze cardstock with VersaMark Ink.  I added Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool.  I also stamped the shell from the set onto a piece of Soft Succulent cardstock using VersaMark Ink and again used the gold embossing powder to emboss it.  After I was done with the embossing, I used one of the dies from the Painted Labels Dies to cut out my sentiment (I also cut a second one out of Gold Foil and cut it in half and put it under my sentiment to give it some extra interest).  I die cut the shell using the die from the bundle (note:  you will have to do some of the cutting by hand as the die cuts a larger group of items but it is really simple to do).  Once it was cut out, I slid it in place inside the Sea Shell 3D Embossing Folder and embossed it.   I used Dimensionals to pop up both the sentiment and the shell.

For the inside of the card and the envelope I wanted to keep it fairly simple.  I used a Very Vanilla Envelope and I cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼”.  I stamped each with the sand dollar from the stamp set using Cajun Craze ink.

I hope you enjoy this card but more importantly I hope you try this technique, I certainly enjoyed doing it.  As always you can find the supplies to create this card and much more on my website at https://craftwithronnie.stampinup.net or by click the shopping button at the top of this blog or the link to the supplies listed below.

Hello Vellum Techniques

I decided today would be an excellent day to dust off some old techniques that I learned long ago and have not been using recently.  Many of these are trusted techniques that have stood the test of time.  I have discovered that some of the ladies in my classes have never seen these before while others sigh and wonder why they stopped using them.  I focused on two techniques in this card, one was different ways to use vellum and the other was using the Stampin’ Write Markers to color directly onto the stamps to get several colors on one stamp.

Here is what I came up with…

This card used two different techniques with the vellum.  So, let’s get started, the card base is the new Polished Pink cardstock that is cut 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”.  I then added a layer of Vellum that measures 4 x 5 ¼”, to add additional interest to the Vellum I used the Ornate Flowers 3D Embossing Folder to emboss it.  I am often asked how I add vellum to projects without the adhesive showing, well the best way I know to do that is to use the Multipurpose Liquid Glue and a sponge.  I put some of the glue on my handy dandy silicone mat (excess just wipes off when it dries) and use a piece of sponge.  I lightly sponge the glue all over the back of the vellum and because it is such a thin layer it is invisible once dry.

I then used the second largest of the rectangle scalloped and stitched dies for the Stitched So Sweetly Dies to cut out my Basic White layer.  I added this to the center of my card with Dimensionals.  I then stamped the pretty flower from the stamp set in the Hand-Penned Petals Bundle onto a piece of 3 x 3” Vellum cardstock using VersaMark ink.  I added the White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat set it using my Heat Tool.  Once it was all set, I die cut it using the coordinating die from the bundle.

Now it was time to color my flowers.  I flipped my vellum over and colored from the back using Stampin’ Blend Alcohol markers (I used the dark of each of the colors listed below). I used that same sponge technique to add adhesive to this and attached it to my card.  I added a simple bow that was made from the Polished Pink Ribbon using a Mini Glue dot.

For the inside of my card and my envelope I decided to show off another old but great technique.  This is where you use the Stampin’ Write Markers to color directly onto the stamp and then stamp.  This is a great way to add multipule colors to one stamp.  The stamp I used was a small flower from the Lovely You stamp set.  I used the Polished Pink and Pear Pizzazz markers to create this affect.  The inside of the card is a piece of Basic White cardstock that measures 4 x 5 ¼”.

While these may not be new techniques, they are new to many folks and it is nice to revisit the classics.  I hope you enjoy this card I certainly enjoyed making it.  As always you can find the supplies to create this card and much more on my website at https://craftwithronnie.stampinup.net or by click the shopping button at the top of this blog or the link to the supplies listed below.
