Double Z Fold Card

I have been wanting to work with this fold for some time.  However, the directions I had were for a finished card that was 4 x 4” and I just hate to pay extra postage for those square cards.  So I have been working on converting it into an A-4 card and I finally figured it out.  So again, today I am sharing 3 cards and again today I decided to use the fun sentiments from the Stampin’ Up! Share Sunshine PDF digital stamp file.  I am making a bunch of these cards to send to my shut-ins from the church (they are now required to stay in their own apartments and can’t participate in any group activities so they are even more shut-in) hoping to make them smile and maybe even laugh.  I am still playing with the paper masks (see May 1^st post on how those are made). 

So here are the three cards, I just love each of them.

So, let’s get started shall we.  The card base is 4 ¼ x 11” scored at 2 ¾ and 5 ½” and the second base is 3 ¾ x 9” scored at 3 ½ and 6 ¼”  (I made one using Melon Mambo for both layers, and one using Blackberry Bliss for both layers and the third I used Blackberry Bliss for the bottom layer and So Saffron for the smaller layer). 

For all three cards, I used two of the coordinating pieces of the Best Dressed DSP.  I cut the larger print pieces for the base of the front of the card to 3 1/3 x 3 ¼” and 2 ½ x 4” (I used the smaller print to make the mask, see May 1^st blog for instructions.  I also cut three pieces of Whisper White cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼” and two each at 2 ½ x 3 ½”.  I attached the largest piece to the inside bottom of the largest card base.  I then stamped both the smaller pieces of whisper white.  I used coordinating flowers from the Dressed to Impress stamp set and stamped them with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored them using Stampin’ Blends markers.  I also used the sentiment “I miss your face” from the Share Sunshine PDF (I will attach the link to purchase it below).  

To assemble.  Fold cardbase at 5 ½” and then fold back the front of the card so it is now 2 ¾” wide.  For the smaller base fold, the two pieces that are now 2 ¾” down on top of one another and the 3 ½” side down over top of them (see pics).  Adhere DSP to the front of both card bases.  Adhere Whisper White to the inside of the larger base.  Adhere stamped Whisper White cardstock to the 3 ½” sections.  Now open up both bases and adhere the smaller one to the larger one centered (be sure to only put adhesive on the sections that don’t fold open.  Adhere mask and sentiment.

Hinged Fun Fold Card

I saw Lisa Curcio create one of these cute fun fold cards on her blog so I decided today I would create one to share with you.  I am adding a bit of humor in the card since so many of us are stuck at home with statewide stay at home orders and I have been having some fun with the new Share Sunshine PDF Download is a digital stamp set that’s packed with both lighthearted and heartfelt sentiments and imagery relevant to the unique COVID-19 and social distancing situation we’re currently experiencing.  Simply print the imagery on cardstock and cut it out using our Paper Trimmer, punches, or dies. So I am going to share three cards today and here is the first one:

The card base is made with your choice of cardstock (I used So Saffron for one and Garden Green for the other two) cut to 4 ¼ x 11” and scored at 4” and 5 1/5”. 

I then cut two pieces of Designer Series Paper / DSP (I used the new Ornate Garden Specialty Paper on the so saffron card and the Garden Lane Designer Series Paper on the other.  Cut the DSP to 1 ¼ x 4” and 3 ¾ x 4” (be sure to keep directional paper oriented correctly when cutting).  Adhere these two pieces of DSP to the front of the card.  Then wrap your ribbon of choice around the smaller portion of the card and tie a bow (I used the coordinating ribbon from the Ornate Garden suite on the first card and Mint Macaron ¼” Textile Ribbon for the other two cards).

Once you have that completed it is time to secure your hinge.  This is accomplished by adhering the small fold in the front of the card that is 1 ½” wide to the back of the card.  For this I like to use Tear and Tape because it holds up to the opening and closing of the card. 

Now to decorate.  For the first card I used the Daisy Lane Stamp set and stamped two large and two medium daisies onto So Saffron Cardstock with Soft Suede ink.  I also stamped the center one of the daisies onto Soft Suede cardstock with Soft Suede ink.  I punched the daisies out with the Daisy and Medium Daisy punches and shaped the petals with my bone folder.  I used my ¾” (now retired) circle punch to punch out the center and added it.  For the sentiment I used a retired stamp but any one of the digital stamps in the Share Sunshine set would work great.

So here are the second and third cards:

The sentiments on these two of the cards are part of a new digital set also for the second two cards I decided to create some little paper masks (why not how hard could it be I have been sewing cloth ones this week so just make them smaller).  Well let me tell you working with something that small is a pain but I found a cute video on YouTube and just tweaked it for my purposes and it was easy then.  So I started out with a piece of DSP that measured 2 ¾ x 2 1/8” and turned it the long way on my score tool and scored it at ½, 5/8, 1, 1 1/8, 1 ½ and 1 5/8” (I discovered after the first card I preferred a little smaller mask so I made it this same way and then just cut 1/8” off the top and bottom and ¼” off the side once I had it all folded up).  Mountain fold the ½, 1 and 1 ½” score lines and valley fold the 5/8, 1 1/8 and 1 5/8” score lines.  I then used tear and tape and Whisper White cardstock to make the edges (for the bigger one I left the sides at ¼” and the top and bottom were cut down to 1/8” and for the smaller one I made the whole thing ¼”) this helped me hold my pleats in place.  Next, I turned my mask over and pushed it open in the center.  I then added a strip of the tear tape and whisper white cardstock to the back of the mask so it would stay open.  On the larger mask I used some 1/8” white ribbon (about 2 ¾”) to make the ear pieces and on the smaller one I fashioned them out of a piece of 1/8” wide whisper white cardstock (about 2 ¼” long).  I adhered both masks to the fronts of the cards using dimensionals.  I added these cute sentiments that I printed out from the digital file and the fronts are done.

For the inside of all three cards I cut Whisper White cardstock to 3 ¾” x 4” and added the adorable sentiment “I miss your face” also from the digital set.

Double Fold Card

Today I decided I would create a card using a fun fold we have not done before.  Of course I am still on a roll coloring this beautiful stamp and I just had to give my Stampin' Blends a try with it as well.  Hope you enjoy.

The card base is Poppy Parade cardstock cut to 5 ½ x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”.  I first cut the center of the front of the card out using the second largest of the Stitched So Sweetly dies (these are currently unavailable but are scheduled to be back in stock on April 27^th).  After the center was cut, I placed just the front half of the card into the Ornate Floral 3D Embossing Folder (I just folded the back of the card around the embossing folder and embossed it.  I then used the largest and the second largest of the Stitched So Sweetly dies to cut a frame for the opening out of Gold Foil Sheet and adhered it as shown above.

The second layer (actually a card in and of itself) is cut out of Smoky Slate cardstock cut to 5 ¼ x 8” and scored at 4”.  This is attached to the inside of the first card and centered with the opening on the left instead of the right.  I then cut two pieces of Whisper White cardstock to 3 ¾ x 5” and I adhered one to the inside of the Smoky Slate card.  To decorate this inside of the card I simply cut a strip of Daffodil Delight cardstock 5 x 1 ¼” and used the Ornate Borders Die (this one is also on backorder and is expected to arrive back in stock by May 4^th) to cut the edge and adhered it to the Whisper White, leaving room for me to write my message.  I love this look.

For the focal point of the card I stamped the Ornate Style Stamp Set stamp with the large floral bouquet onto the center using Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored in my flowers using the blends listed below.  I love how this card turned out and while I did not add any sentiments prior to taking these photos I will be.  I intend to use this card as a Mother’s Day card for my amazing Mother In Law.
