Calypso Coral and Soft Succulent Amazing Together

I really like the Symbols of Fortune Specialty Designer Series Paper that was introduced in the January – July Mini Catalog.  I find the colors to be very appealing to me.  I was surprised to discover how well Calypso Coral and Soft Succulent go together; I just would not have thought of that combination without seeing it on the paper I am featuring on today’s card.      

Here is what it looks like…

The card base is Soft Succulent cardstock that is cut to 5 ½ x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼” (set this aside we are going to do some other construction before we add anything to this layer).  I cut a layer of Calypso Coral cardstock that measures 4 1/8 x 5 3/8” and then a layer of the beautiful Symbols of Fortune Specialty Designer Series Paper that measures 4 x 5 ¼” and adhered them together.  Next, I used one of the sheets of the Specialty Designer Series Paper that has these beautiful flowers on it that coordinate with one of the dies from the Good Fortune Dies (I love it when Stampin’ Up! does this it creates a whole new opportunity).  I cut one of the double flowers and then a single one.  I added the double flowers to the center of the card with Dimensionals and then I tucked the single flower under that and adhered it directly to the DSP.  Next, I took two pieces of the Soft Succulent Satin Shimmer Ribbon and attached each to one side of the layer, I brought them together and created a bow.  (I wish you could feel this ribbon it is so soft it is unbelievable and that is why it is so easy to work with).  I then added this layer to the soft succulent base with Dimensionals. 

For my sentiment I stamped “happy birthday” this one happens to be from the Timeless Tulips stamp set but we all have these different sentiments that are in fonts we just love.  I stamped it onto a scrap of Calypso Coral cardstock using Soft Succulent ink and then die cut it using one of the dies from the Tasteful Labels Dies, I also cut a second one from a scrap of the Soft Succulent cardstock.  Just cut the soft succulent one in half and adhere behind the calypso coral one leaving just a little of the soft succulent one showing on each end.  I added this to my card using Dimensionals.  For my final addition I had noticed the cute little butterflies on the paper so I wanted to mimic them.  I took three of the Brushed Brass Butterflies and colored them with the Evening Evergreen Stampin’ Blends (you can do this to most of the jewels, gems and some of the ribbon to make it the color you want) and once they were dry, I added them to my card.

Pocket Card

I wanted to create something different than what I had been with the Honeybee Home bundle from the January – July Mini catalog.  So where did I go for inspiration, why Pinterest of course.  I found this adorable little pocket card that Rose Mahoney had created and so I decided to put a little of my own spin on it and see what I could come up with.    

Here is my take on the card…

The card base is Cinnamon Cider cardstock that is cut to 4 1/3 x 5 ½”.  Next, I added a piece of the Heart & Home Designer Series Paper (DSP) that measured 4 x 5 ¼” to this, this makes the base.  I then cut a piece of Cinnamon Cider cardstock to 3 ½ x 3 ½” and cut it diagonally to make the base for my pocket (save the other half for another card).  Then I took the same DSP as I had used on the base and cut it to 3 ¼ x 3 ¼” and cut it diagonally (now be careful here to make sure you keep your paper running in the same direction if it is directional, for mine I needed to be sure the boards continued to run up and down not side to side).  Once you have the two cut adhere them together and add them to the left corner with a thin line of Multipurpose Liquid Glue just on the left side and the bottom.  To finish this part of the card I die cut one of the grasses from the Honeybee Home Dies out of Evening Evergreen Shimmer Vellum and added it to my pocket.  I stamped one of the bees from the Honeybee Home stamp set onto a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored it with Daffodil Delight (both light and dark) and the Light Smokey Slate Stampin’ Blends and I added it using a Dimensional.  The photos don’t show it but I did add Wink of Stella to all the bees and flowers on this card.

Now it is time to move onto the insert for the card.  I cut a piece of Cinnamon Cider cardstock to 3 ¼ x 4 ¼” and a piece of Basic White to the same size.  On my Basic White cardstock, I stamped and colored my bee using the same colored Stampin’ Blends I used on the first bee (this is the back and will be where I write my message or stamp a sentiment.  

I then cut my DSP to 3 x 4” and adhered it to the front side.  I added one of the Basic Gray Heart & Home Doilies to the center of the DSP.  Then I stamped both the flowers and two of the bees from the stamp set onto scraps of Very Vanilla Cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  I colored the bees the same as the two previous bees.  For my flowers I used the Soft Succulent for all the leaves and foliage and for one I colored it with Daffodil Delight and the other was colored with Pale Papaya Stampin’ Blends.  I then die cut them using the coordinating dies from the bundle.  While I was die cutting I cut two of the floral images from the Pale Papaya Shimmer Vellum and another of the grasses from the Evening Evergreen Shimmer Vellum.  Then I simply layered them all onto my doily.  I did not use dimensionals on this layer as it needs to lay a little flat to slide easily in and out of the pocket.  One note, to help that sliding in and out take your bone folder after your glue is well set and just run it back and forth in the pocket to encourage it to have a little give.

Slimline Card

Slimline cards have become all the rage and Stampin’ Up! even has Slimline Envelopes available now.  Today I decided I would use several of the products from the Heart & Home Suite to create a slimline card.      

Here is what I came up with…

The card base is Basic White cardstock that is cut to 7 ½ x 8 ½” and scored at 3 ¾” on the 7 ½” side.  I added a layer of Basic Gray that measures 3 4/8 x 8 3/8”.  Next, I added a layer of the wood panel looking paper from the Heart & Home 12 x 12” Designer Series Paper that measures 3 ½ x 8 ¼”. 

With this all assembled I started to work on my stamping for my card.  I stamped two of the floral bouquets from the Blessings of Home Bundle onto Basic White cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento ink and die cut them using the coordinating dies.  I then stamped the three bees from the Honeybee Home Bundle onto Basic White cardstock again with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and die cut them using the coordinating dies.  I colored everything in using the Stampin’ Blends listed below.  (Note:  on the large white flowers I just added a little of the Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blends in the center).  I also added Wink of Stella (does not show in the pics but it is beautiful on the card) to just the white flowers and the three bees. 

I adhered one of the bouquets directly onto the card base and I popped the second one up using Dimensionals.  I added all three bees using Dimensionals as well.  I turned my bouquets to give the card that little arch look.  As you can see, I intended this card to be a vertical card but I could have chosen to orient it to a horizonal card as well.

For the inside I simply stamped a part of the bouquet on the bottom corner using Basic Gray Ink and I did the same on the Slimline Envelope.  These envelopes come in a package of 15 with 5 each of Soft Succulent, White and Smoky Slate and each has a nice liner as well.
