DEBOSSED 3D SUNFLOWERS

Today’s card features the Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder.  I have to say I am so happy I finally got this embossing folder.  I have wanted it for a long time but it just keep going out of stock and now that I have played with it I can see why.  One of the best parts of this folder is that you can emboss two card fronts at the very same time because it is so large.  I had seen were some of the other demonstrators had played around using ink to enhance the embossed image so I decided to give that a whirl.

Here is what I came up with…

The card base is Night of Navy cardstock cut to 4 ¼ x 11” and scored at 5 ½”.  I then cut a layer of the pretty new Cloud Cover cardstock to 4 x 5 ¼” and set it aside.  Then I cut a second piece of the Cloud Cover cardstock to 3 ¾ x 5” and I embossed this one.  So here is where I left the path that I would normally follow, instead of inking the embossed side I decided to ink the debossed side.  So, to explain that think of the sunflowers being sunk into the cardstock on the debossed side rather than raised up on the embossed side.

With the debossed side up (on scrap paper because this is a little on the messy side) I grabbed my Night of Navy Ink Pad and tipped it so just one edge was hitting the paper and I dragged it across the debossed side of the layer.  It is important to use a light hand here as you can add additional ink if you need to but there is no way to remove ink if you go to heavy handed.  Once I was satisfied with the coloring, I simply set my piece aside and allowed it to dry so it would be easier to work with and so I wouldn’t have ink everywhere (you can speed this up by using the lower setting on your heat emboss gun to aid in drying).

While I was waiting for my piece to dry, I grabbed a small piece of Cloud Cover cardstock that was ½ x 3” and stamped my sentiment “Happy Birthday” from the Simply Said Stamp Set onto it with Night of Navy Ink.  Once I was happy that my ink was dried, I attached my debossed sunflowers to the 4 x 5 ¼” layer of Cloud Cover cardstock and popped that whole layer up on my cardbase using Dimensionals.  I then used additional Dimensionals and popped up my sentiment.  This was really a nice and easy card to create.

I hope you enjoy this card I certainly enjoyed making it.  As always you can find the supplies to create this card and more on my website at https://www.stampinup.com?demoid=2206796 or by clicking the shopping button at the top of this blog or the link to the supplies listed below.  Be sure to follow me at:
